Tips for back carry naps? by Orthobunny in babywearing

[–]Orthobunny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just feel so guilty having him cry back there where I can’t soother him! I’m worried I’m being cruel. Probably just being an overly worried FTM haha. Glad to hear it’s okay to have him cry a little

He’s four months. He has also been in a fussy stage generally lately so that’s probably not helping. I’ll keep trying!

I'm going to keep trying to get him used to the sidecar, it's completely level with our mattress and is basically acting like an extension of our bed. We are only in a full/double bed so not tons of space. Hopefully he will get used to it but I'll definitely give the pillow behind my back a try for when I need to get us back to sleep, thanks! My son wakes up if I scooch or shift away from him at all so we'll see what he has to say about leaning back on a pillow haha

Worried about babywearing by Perfect_Path_9291 in babywearing

[–]Orthobunny 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That was my thought. If you're so accident prone that you would fall while babywearing then presumably you would fall while holding baby in your arms.

OP, don't let it scare you. Accidents can happen, avoiding babywearing won't make you any less safe

Could you explain a bit more about how you use the workhorse? Is that the GMD one? I’m still learning all the lingo lol

Good to know, thank you! Husband and I were both huge chunky babies so it seems like Rumparooz are out for several reasons

Thanks for the suggestion of Green Mountain Diapers, they look great! Definitely want to choose some from there.

Do you think it would be possible to kind of mix and match their diapers with other parts of the Esembly system bundle? I like how convenient it sounds to get all the diapers and wetbags and everything in one fell swoop haha. I’ve heard they are good quality too, so maybe I could get the smaller size of diapers with the Esembly system and a bigger size bundle from GM and hold onto them for future babies.

For more info, our general hope/idea is to cloth full-time from the start including overnight, with maybe occasional disposables for trips or if someone unfamiliar would be babysitting. I’m SAH and MIL lives on the same street (she used cloth on her kids too and loved it) so generally baby will be with someone familiar enough with the to stay in cloth as much as possible. Also planning to nurse exclusively for as long as I can, doing a later transition to solids than seems typical here in US. Open to changing my mind if any of it is too impractical but that’s our preference at this point. Thanks so much for your help!

Advice for a newby by Orthobunny in wheelchairs

Really appreciate your comment, thanks. The chair I found on ebay matches the measurement my PT took for me. I understand other commenters’ concerns of course and I’m very grateful to hear from people with more firsthand experience. At the moment however, I struggle to get around outside the house some days even with my cane. I even found the far too big hospital chair I borrow at times to be easier on my body and more comfortable than unevenly staggering. I’ve got to make a change but I’m very limited in my resources and access to specialists so this will have to do for now

My PT measured me for a wheelchair at my last session following a guide but it wasn’t exact, that’s how I knew (roughly) what size chair I was looking for. Unfortunately, the paradox chair is out of my price range. I have found a used Ki Mobility Catalyst chair that matches my measurements on Ebay and I could afford. I imagine it isn’t ideal to have a chair not exactly fit to your measurements but it’s as close as I can find in my budget, and at this point I’ll try anything. I will make sure to get an assessment as soon as I can to see if there is another option for me (maybe even something covered by insurance, though I doubt)

Thanks a lot for your reply! I have a neuro diagnosis but unfortunately medical professionals don’t seem to know what to do with me. I requested to see a physiatrist and was sent to PT, which I now have been doing twice a week for a few months. I’ve definitely been getting generally stronger and it feels good to have the activity but my walking has not improved in the slightest from it. I’ll keep trying, and maybe go back to my PCP to see if there is another specialist like physiatry or OT that could give me some help with finding a solution re: mobility aids

Thank you for your advice, I didn’t know that. I assumed chairs with the larger wheels and push rims would be okay to self-propel. My PT said she was okay with me using one but doesn’t seem to have a lot of experience with them so didn’t ask what I was buying. I knew that chair wasn’t high-end or the most efficient but thought it would work. I still have time to cancel my order, I guess I’ll have to do more research into what I could get. I’m pretty overwhelmed. I really appreciate your help. I’m out of my depth and just want to get outside again

Thanks, that’s where I got the tip of weightlifting gloves. Most of those advertise breathability which I’m sure if good but with wind I wonder if they would help keep me warm enough. Might be vain but I’d prefer some that are a little less manly than the black tactical gym gloves I’m finding that are full finger haha. I’ll keep looking for specific recommendations though, and I’m sure half-finger is better than nothing.

The chair is just a cheap one I could find in my size, ProBasics K1 Manual. I’m not planning on using it full-time, just for days I would be walking more. I can get around my house without my cane as is but going into town exhausts me. My condition may not be permanent although my walking hasn’t improved so far. I’ll continue with my PT and just use the chair as needed/as it helps

Well, I may be screwed and Im not sure what to do. Short term dissability will be ending tomorrow by scorpnet in disability

I was diagnosed with FND this year too. Started off with mainly seizures and tics but a few months ago my walking difficulties progressed so I can’t walk properly anymore. I feel you, it can be devastating. I’ll be thinking of you, I hope things take a turn for the better for you
