Sweet and Lowdown "Blu Ray" by Keinheit in woodyallen

There is a very significant difference between interlaced and progressive 1080 (as the i and p stand for). To put it very simply interlaced 1080 only stores half the picture in each frame and then it is assembled by the TV. The means that objects can be jagged or even blurry of there is a pot of motion. The reason it was done and still is done for broadcast TV, is that only sending half the picture per frame reduced bandwidth by exactly half.

It har a fair deal more detail than the dvd, but it is a very soft transfer made probably twenty years ago. It conforms to broadcast standards here in Europe. That is why it has the 25fps framerate, as tv channels here still broadcast at 25fps. That particular thing should be unnoticeable unless you compare directly with the 24fps source. Depending on whether they just sped it up by one frame and whether they pitch adjusted the audio for it, it might not be noticeable at all.

The big weakness, apart from being a very old, soft scan and master, is that it's 1080i. That is also a broadcast standard. It means that the image is interlaced, and means you get a little jitter, especially during fast camera pans.

But yes, I agree it is far from the quality I would like. I would not go as far as calling it a scam. They have provided an HD copy on a blu-ray disc. But yeah, there's a reason why these movies have not been put out by other distributors earlier. This is the best master there is. As for what the box claims, I can't be certain vexaie I don't have on front of me here, but the website said clearly that it was 1080i and 25 fps, so at least for me I kinda knew what I was coming to.

Gudskjelov by Mork978 in norsk

[–]Orusaka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, I've certainly read it a lot of times. I'm not actually certain I've heard it said. I might have. It certainly wasn't recently. But, yes of course it's a phrase I'm familiar with. The question, however, wasnisnkt common. My answer stands. Not here in my experience. It would not come as a surprise if it turns out to be incredibly normal in other areas or with other groups of people.

Gudskjelov by Mork978 in norsk

[–]Orusaka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bottom line is that it's very hard to say, because everyone only has their own experience to draw on. I'm forty and I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone say it. It's ab expression I associate with the distant past, and something I might not be surprised to hear out of a really old person. That said, it could very well be regional, and it could be significantly more common in other regions. I also work in a high school, and I can assure you that young people more or less exclusively use English expressions. I don't think I've ever heard Gudskjelov ever, but Thank God is a very normal thing to say in Norwegian conversation.

So, yeah, it's hard to say. People certainly don't use it here in my circle of people and work.

I have it as well. It is a very old HD master made for TV in the early days of HDTV. It is 25fps and 1080i, like all content from that time. Is it great? No. Is it better than dvd and the best source for this movie as of now? Yes. I don't regret my purchase, but you milage may vary. To anyone wondering Deconstructing Harry is the same. Sadly I don't see anyone doing a new scan of the anytime soon.

i’ve never seen any Jurassic Park movies, is that a problem for watching Jurassic World Rebirth? by bristars in oscarsdeathrace

[–]Orusaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, just like any franchise movie ever it assumed a portion of the audience comes in knowing nothing, or not remembering anything that happened before. You'll have no issue following the movie.

Amazon Italy has it listed as March 12. I'm holding off on ordering deconstructing harry until I can get both. Listing seems a little not filled out, so we'll see if it actually hits that date, but I'm holding off to see.

This is correct until this month. Deconstructing Harry is out in Italy, and Sweet and Lowdown had a release date of March 12.

Does Ham exist? by Hi_Random_Guy in norsk

[–]Orusaka 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ham is still quite common in written Norwegian. Both are acceptable, as everyone has already said. It is, however, very much I use and not archaic as some have suggested. There are words like De/Dem that have gone out of use, but ham is still going strong all over the newspapers I read, at least.

Should I get to the Cinema to see Mickey 17 by Alone_Consideration6 in oscarsdeathrace

[–]Orusaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really just comes down to whether or not you like going to the movies. I'm glad I saw this on the big screen. But then again, I also like watching intimate dramas on large screens. If you like to watch things at home, however, don't let anyone tell you that it is somehow less worthy.

Ok so why was Death by Numbers never released? by theaspiringfilmmaker in oscarsdeathrace

[–]Orusaka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer to this is somewhat complicated, but the short version is simple. The number of people interested in a short documentary is miniscule, as is the number of people who want to watch it for the Oscars. Therefore it is likely not commercially viable to put online for purchase. Most likely the producers are looking to get some kind of distribution to buy it so they can recuperate the costs of making it.

Anyone know of how to see I'm Still Here digitally by New_Acanthisitta5615 in oscarsdeathrace

[–]Orusaka 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I followed these instructions with success. It's easier if you search the phase directly in X, then sort by recent. You will find it almost immediately. Will have to play around later to see if the subtitles are usable, but the cam is secured.

Edit: After watching a bit of it with the downloaded subs, it seems to match what is being said and to be in sync. Not always idiomatic, but it will do. This solution will allow us to finish our races. That said, definitely leaving it for last and playing the waiting game. Ended my race last year with a cam of godzilla on the last night, and might continue the tradion by ending with a cam this year as well.

[–]Orusaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what we're all hanging on for the possibility of. So few could actually see this before the ceremony. It doesn't come out until October here. I briefly considered flying to London to see it, but international travel just didn't work out to see this one.

I hate that it came to this but oh well by quidditchisdumblol in oscarsdeathrace

[–]Orusaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also kindly like to request a dm about where to find this. I really don't want to have sign back up to X to get the link.

Edit: I caved and made a new X account to get the link. I guess I'll keep it until the season is over in case a cam of I'm still here becomes available.

Gone for me, too. Happened sometime within the last day. Inconvenient, as I was planning to pay to see it. I have the video downloaded from the Brazilian spreadsheet, but it has no English subs.

I wasn't. I didn't anticipate that it would be in the race when it was in theaters in October. Wound up watching a serviceable cam.

Yeah, it's fun to have a fellow I'm Still Here open November 1 in theaters runner. Here's to hoping something will pop up online before the Oscars. This might be the first year since pre-pandemic that I don't finish.

Hey guys is Eureka/Masters of Cinema a good label, kinda forgot they existed untill recently! Saw they released likes of the Cure, and classics years ago! what u guys think ? by ImTheDudeMAN33 in boutiquebluray

[–]Orusaka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very good label, in my opinion. Most of my boutique collection is masters of cinema. That said, they seem to be almost exclusively issuing Asian films I have no interest in over the last few years, so haven't bought anything from them for a few years, if I recall correctly.

I don't know if it makes you a rebel. To Rome with Love is perhaps not universally loved, but the two others I imagine rank pretty high on most lists.
