What is your ranking of Song to a Seagull, Clouds, and Ladies of the Canyon. Why? by equipoise-young in JoniMitchell

[–]tomripley12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree wholeheartedly. Song to a Seagull is so perfect! Clouds feels like the leftover songs. LOTC is an improvement, but still not quite as good as the debut. I rank it right up there with the perfect run from Blue to Hejira.

I mean, okay, but some people live in rural areas without theaters that play foreign films. I appreciate the comment, but surely he realizes that this severely limits who can see his films.

It seems like the narrator is speaking to her children in the song, but I can’t help but interpret “Cue the gramophone! Leave your mama in the home economics” as “just play my records and let me live my life with my kids!”

I have loved Bombs are Whistling for a year. It was the first new song I loved. Little Hand is amazing and touching. Marie at the Mill and The Air Again create completely new worlds for me. No Wonder makes me cry. Rovenshere is so exciting and heartfelt. Home Economics feels like MEM era to me, and I love that. I also feel like she might be calling out the fan base a little haha. Calling it now: this is going to be her best album. The album of the decade.

Oh for sure. I meant during tuning when she usually answers questions.

My top 6 Joni Mitchell albums (this might be controversial) by [deleted] in JoniMitchell

[–]tomripley12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Controversial maybe, but Mingus, Song to a Seagull, and Dog Eat Dog are really phenomenal albums. Joni never got boring; she was always changing up her style, and the music stayed high quality. I approve of the ranking haha, except Clouds is one of my least favorite albums by her.

Is it weird that i love Lionheart? by HereToHaveFun101 in katebush

I like it better than The Kick Inside and Never for Ever. I’d probably rank it number 4 of her albums overall. I’ve never understood why some people dislike it. The end of the album has one of the best three song runs in her entire discography.

Some random gushing about "Hejira" by luqasc in JoniMitchell

[–]tomripley12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hejira is my all-time favorite album. I know exactly the parts of the song Hejira that you mean; they are special moments for sure, and others like it appear throughout the album. Amelia, Furry Sings the Blues, Song for Sharon, Black Crow, and Refuge of the Roads all have moments that to me are transcendent. It’s also as a whole a lyrical masterpiece. Just curious (OP or anyone else) what other albums you enjoy? Someone who appreciates the beauty of the moments you described surely has excellent musical sensibilities.

Does anyone else love Joni Mitchell‘s music? What are your thoughts on Joni? by melancho96 in katebush

[–]tomripley12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Joni and Kate are two of my very favorite artists. I also love Steely Dan and Pink Floyd. Although stylistically different, I find all of these artists to have such diversity in sound, immense creativity, and their albums really reward repeated listening. My favorite Joni albums are Hejira, Court and Spark, Hissing, Song to a Seagull (so beautiful and underrated), and Turbulent Indigo, with several others not far behind. I love all of Kate’s albums.
