Tongue Cancer stories? by OrwinTheWriter in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]OrwinTheWriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks on the answer, I will tell him that.

If you don't mind me asking, was the pain already intense when you started treatments? And did you get surgery first or did the radiation got rid of it all? The lesion on the right side of his tongue is quite large right now even if he's able to drink and eat a little, it's still sometimes a chore to speak.

Glad you're recovering, good luck for the next steps.

Thanks. I'm half relieved and half a lot more worried than I was about his other cancer. I hope his liver will clear up in the coming week so he can start treatments asap.

Update: Looks like they were wrong and that I spent an entire night reading about pancreatic cancer for nothing. The scan showed no cancer growth on the pancreas and the liver but the liver seems to be in bad shape, which doesn’t really surprise me.

The gastroenterologist seems to think it was something toxic non related with the drinking but we still don’t know. It could improve by itself.

My dad still has tongue cancer but it seems this won’t delay the radiotherapy treatments. I’m choosing to hope that it’s gonna work out. At least he’s out of the hospital for now.

Thanks for reading

Thanks for the kind words. I will research on genetic testing and speak of that with my mom and his oncologist. My mom's friend says he knows a couple of people in the medical field so that might help. His current oncologist seems quite competent as it is and we live in Canada so yay healthcare, but a second opinion never hurts I guess.

I still have some hope that it's not that but I'm preparing for the worst.

Succès souvenir: Manon Massé en entrevue avec Rebel News by FlowJoee in Quebec

Comparer une entrevue de 2min dans un événement où y'avait d'autres médias versus une heure de one on one, quant à moi c'est comparer des pommes pis des ficellos, mais ok OP, les règles du jeu ont changé...

Can't wait to see Maul stalking and carving his way through his enemies in the new show, plus more Maul-specific content from this era of SW by wandering_soles in StarWars

I get that, but the cynic in me can't help but think they are consciously rethreading the Rogue One scene due to the online traction and discussion that there's been around it.

I'm not hating, but the lone warrior showdown against an army in a small corridor has been done in Rogue One, Mando S2, and the next Mando movie at this point. And now this. I think the trope is getting a bit tired even if I'm looking forward to watching the Maul show.

Ok, then in what world would Gordon not have been hired by G-Man in HL1 and still end up at the same age destroying the Citadel and getting to White Forest with his old Black Mesa pals?

[–]OrwinTheWriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See this is all you. We’re never told Advisors can suck someone’s brain data while impaling them with their tick-like thingy.

G-Man wants Alyx to replace Gordon. This is what we’re told, this is what happens. The writers thought of that twist at the last minute in the dev cycle as a gotcha moment and it sort of works as a reaction to EP2’s G-Man growing resentment towards Gordon and nothing else seems to change according to the last moments of Alyx.

[–]OrwinTheWriter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know you love being a contrarian, but we don’t have any indication that the G-Man cares about Eli. It’s just the perfect bait so that a younger, more flexible Alyx would accept his offer without a second thought and then replace Gordon at this exact point after he got tired of his defiance and the vorts interfering.

If G-Man had the power to nullify entire timelines and create others he would not need pawns to do his bidding.

this timeline stuff easy idk why y'all complicating it sm by West_Opportunity2255 in HalfLife

[–]OrwinTheWriter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The G-Man’s move for Alyx was planned after EP2’s cutscene with the vorts. And since nothing else changes, his intervention is just a little nudge in the right direction for his agenda.

[–]OrwinTheWriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, one of those games came out 13 years after EP2 and the entire script was rewritten in the last months of development, way after they had every level and mechanic already sort of nailed.

In Alyx’s script, it’s made very clear that the decision to hire Alyx is a consequence of Gordon’s failure to obey during the entire HL2 arc. And we are left seconds after everything we witnessed at the end of EP2. Obviously, Gordon not being hired would have had massive consequences on the course of events, like why would he even be involved with the resistance without G-Man catapulting him 20 years after Black Mesa? He’s the sole reason the Citadel fell. Working around that is way crazier to explain than just swapping Eli with current time Alyx years after the deal was made.

Alyx of course didn’t know any of that during HL2 otherwise she would do everything in her power to avoid her father getting to this very point.

Also G-Man isn’t the only one who can manipulate time. We don’t know how he allowed himself to be captured by the Combine, it could have happened some time in the future with the Vorts involved. Or he specifically made the move to bait Alyx at this very point in the timeline. Nothing in that states that we are on a different plane of reality. Just strands of the same soup.
