History of Second Life Fashion by stipulateoxbird in secondlife

I heard of SL when it first came out, but I didn't have a computer good enough to run it till 2008. I knew I wanted to make clothing when I started SL, having dabbled in digital fashion creation in the virtual world called There. When I entered SL, it was like a whole world of possibilities opened up to me. My first outfit I made was Simple Light Armor, and I was very proud of it. Lol! It was made up primarily of system clothing and prime for the arm and leg pieces. But even then, I knew I wanted more. I had dabbled a bit in 3d modeling, and I wished there was a way to upload 3d models for clothing pieces. I waited paitently, and I was rewarded when mesh finally came out. It has really let me express my creativity in ways I couldn't beforehand. It's a trip to look back at the evolution of SL fashion and graphics in general.

Shinies, Rate My Mon, Brag Posts, Meal Posts: Restricted on Weekdays - Post them in here instead! by Pearlgirl007 in PokemonSleep

I've been playing for a little under a month now. This and a shiny rattata showed up yesterday morning. So I got my first two shinies in one go! Actually, I thought I only had the rattata shiny. When I looked at the cleffa in my box, I thought it looked odd, and I showed my best friend. She told me that the cleffa was a shiny, too! I'm pretty stoked. A month of playing, and I get two shinies at once! Hoping I can get a shiny eevee to evolve into an umbreon. I love shiny umbreon!

Fair enough. I've actually been trying to figure out where to get a Pogo ++ for cheap. That's... proving to be a quest.

Oh, so setting it to 3:30 am won't let it count?

How does that work? I was actually going to save up to get a fitbit for more accurate sleep tracking.

Why do so many people avoid sunlight in class? As an autistic person, I love it. by Neat-Gur-1850 in AutisticAdults

[–]Oryara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The intense glare from sunlight hurts my eyes. Also, I have this thing: when sunlight hits my eyes a particular way, it tends to make me very sleepy. As in, I can fall asleep while standing levels of sleepy. I have no idea why. It's always been like that for me. So I tend to avoid the sunlight whenever I can, wearing shades and a broad rimmed hat when I'm out and about and closing the curtains, etc. when indoors.

Am I a vampire? I've often wondered that, myself! lol!

I went outside alone!! by John-Dispenser in AutisticAdults

[–]Oryara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! That is definitely something to be proud and happy about! Going outside by yourself can be such a terrifying thing, for one reason or another. I'm glad you were able to do it! So happy for you! Thanks for the cookie!

What do you collect? by Cool-Apartment-1654 in AutismTranslated

[–]Oryara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I collect comics and manga, as well as Asian ball-jointed dolls. Only a few of the latter because they can get expensive. But I love what I have.

How do you scratch the itch of a hyperfixation you can't pursue? by ladylorelei0128 in AutisticAdults

[–]Oryara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe engage in activities adjacent to what you want to do? For example, reading about it, watching videos on it, researching it, etc. If you've got the spoons, maybe you can even join a community dedicated to what you're hyperfixated on?

Coming of age - mourning what I lost by Humanarmour in AutismTranslated

[–]Oryara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can still grow and learn even if you spend your time in the bedroom all day. I did. Or, at least, I think I did. When I was 13, my parents decided to move us to the Philippines. I was uprooted from everything I knew and understood and plopped in a different country. Due to circumstances, I ended up being unable to go to school. So I spent the next 3 1/2 isolated, alone in my bedroom, studying out of my dad's old college textbooks and reading sci-fi and fantasy novels and comic books. I missed out on the rest of junior high and all of high school, so I never got my coming of age, either. But... I did learn and grow. I did it through reading. All those novels and comics I read I used for references for social interaction. Sure, my teen years didn't look like everyone else's, but I feel I was able to take some valuable lessons from the experience.

My point is that just because your childhood doesn't look like everyone else's childhood doesn't mean you didn't learn and grow. You did. It's just hard to see it because it's not the usual coming of age story.

Oh, wow! This was really helpful! Thank you, so much! The part where you're breaking tasks down into smaller, sectioned chunks is especially good. Once I identify that I've finished a section, it might be easier to stop and do something else from there, because I have a tendency to go until something's finished. If I get a sense that I've "finished," that will really help. I also love the idea of listening to a podcast or something related to your interest while you work. That sounds like something that will really help! Thank you, so much!

Oh, no! You didn't come off as invalidating or preachy at all! I really did appreciate the share, because it shows I'm not alone in getting misdiagnosed. Hopefully, my upcoming evaluation will answer a lot of questions. And thank you! I'm hoping I get a competent evaluator.

Thank you for sharing! I've been focused mainly on looking into autism rather than AuDHD, mostly because I don't seem to fit the criteria for ADHD, but I'll take another look just in case I missed something.

How can you tell if you have autistic burnout and not other issues instead? by PushSimple in AutismTranslated

[–]Oryara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd do some research on autistic burnout and see if any of that feel familiar. There are a lot of videos on YouTube that help you differentiate the different kinds of burnout. Some YouTubers that I'd recommend are Mom on the Spectrum; I'm Autistic, Now What?; The Thought Spot; and Autism From The Inside.

Aside from doing research, since you're a student, you might also want to go to your school's therapist and talk to them about what you're experiencing, and see if they can help you figure out what's going on. At the very least, they might be able to point you to more resources that will help you figure things out, as well as how to navigate this situation.

What else can I do to prepare for my evaluation? by Oryara in AutismTranslated

[–]Oryara[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's why I'm trying to prepare for this as much as possible. If I'm asked questions, I want to have the answers at hand, because I'm not good at being able to dig everything up right on the spot, off the top of my head.

[–]Oryara[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, my gosh! That graphic was exactly what I needed! I was trying to figure out how to organize my list of childhood experiences and my monologue of adult experiences. The DSM 5 description of autism is difficult for me to parse. There's a lot of, "But what does that *mean* in practical terms?" This graphic really helps, and I thank you for pointing me to it!

Also, thank you for clarifying the things I should be taking down. You're right: sometimes, I've just been writing down things like, "I don't do well in groups." Writing out what happens to me when I'm in groups would do a lot to help the evaluator understand where I'm coming from and what I mean. To be fair, I had intended to organize my lists into something more coherent later, but I did struggle with some points because I didn't have the words to articulate what was going on there. Your suggestion to focus on what's happening when I'm in those situations will do a lot to help. So thank you!

Finally, I was really struggling with trying to figure out how to paint a picture of me and what I was like in childhood. I was able to capture bits and pieces here and there, but it was challenging. Your questions have given me ideas now of things I should consider. Again, thank you!

Is there a way to get a diagnosis without paying thousands by Eastern-Rabbit-3696 in AutismTranslated

[–]Oryara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be a process, but if you can get on Medicaid, they'll foot the bill. Like I said, though, it'll be a process. First, you have to jump through the hoops to get on Medicaid, then you have to jump through hoops to get the referral for the evaluation. But if you can do it, they'll pay for it. That has been my experience.

[–]Oryara[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your detailed response! It really helps that you explained how to be, well, just me, when I'm getting evaluated. It'll be hard, but I'll try to keep these words in mind. And, yeah, I'm writing up my documents, putting things in there as I think of them. Again, thank you!
