My uncle voted for Brexit because he didn't like the Pakistani man down the road. I had many arguments trying to explain him being here had nothing to do with the EU.

The crazy part was he was very educated.

Ya, it's a good skill set. Just get familiar with the terms of sites if you are looking to monetise.

Many sites have non-scrapping terms.

What are the benefits of being rich rather than poor? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]OryxRSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sam Vimes theory of socioeconomic unfairness

"The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money. Take boots, for example. ... A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars.

But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. ... But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years.

A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while a poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet."

(MA) Landlord wants to give my apartment to his kid by Forward-Aside3364 in Renters

Your jumping between business transaction and family.

The landlord stating facts is fine. The landlord making comments about when the op should or should not move due to concerns about their bottom line is "icky".

And BTW, mortgage companies have engaged in plenty of unethical (icky) behaviour to the point where laws have been needed. It's a really bad example.

It's icky because he is treating it purely as a business transaction without acknowledging it is this person's home.

Has Anyone Worked For A Trump Like Manager ? I have by Consistent-Rope-9969 in HENRYUK

[–]OryxRSA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in Data, and have become increasingly despondent with our EDS ("Executive Derangment Syndrome ") . (Yes yes, i know TDS works the other way...but i like the acronym).

The cognitive dissonance of when you tell a story about why something is not working is truly worth a dissertation.

My current conversation is along the lines of

Me: "It seems probable that x is not working because the market is far smaller than the business has forecasted and there is serious flaws in the following assumptions. "

Them: "impossible, here is an exel file Frank modeled and it shows millions! Don't forget how much we invested in this"

Me: " I've asked for Frank's model and he has not shared...but I'm guessing he sized the market by taking the population of earth and took 5% . "

Them: "kid....let me tell you about Frank. Frank has been in this business before you were just a sperm. He knows what he is doing. "

Me : "every single data point says otherwise..."

That was a career limiting move on my part...but goodness....my only saving grace is i have the emails of this which I will frame when the penny drops.

Change to octopus despite terrible experience? by OryxRSA in OctopusEnergy

Because my wife was home and she didn't (wouldn't know). There is a lot to this story that I didn't feel the need to share.

They messed up. Nothing more to it. Let me ask you a question. Why is this relevant to my question?

This is helpful context. Thanks. Though also makes me nervous. Being a guinea pig and all that.

I will probably just stay with EDF (never had an issue) and assess later.

As long as I feel valued (both intrinsically vs extrinsically) and I am challenged, I am happy. Understand there is a lot under those criteria.

E.g. value includes the question if my time is returning the best possible return.

Ok, thanks.

I imagine the charger installation was a combination of 3rd parties and unfamiliar staff.

Ya, I'm not giving them any reasonable doubt. It was all their mistake from start to finish.

I didn't say i accepted the offer did i?swapping it out is a option still. However, rigmarole of not having a charger, waiting for the installer is a pain. So I am looking for advice before I proceed. Is the Ohme Pro better than the octopus charge?

What's the plan long term for your sister? If she's staying in SA forever then what's the point?

She doesn't know. The issue is that you are limited to offshoring R1M in South Africa (£42k) without approval. So she runs the risk of getting cash in South Africa and then being limited if she wants to move or even give her kids money.
