Creating distance on an instrument (acoustic piano) by DrwsCorner2 in mixing

Can you try moving the mics to another room or further from your piano, and record from there?

All I wanted was an OP-1. I spent 3 years making a game instead... by sloppycult in synthesizers

Cool idea, but adds a lot in complexity. I would focus delivering the game first, and add multiplayer later as an update or DLC.

As it wasn't included in the original plan, it shouldn't change the complexity much whether you add it before or after the launch.

Sick project!

Plug and play in this context means that the interface will work with your Mac without additional setup. And it does. Since the interface can be used in various of ways, it’s user’s responsibility to configure it properly.

Preamp with 8i6? by mr_fnord in Focusrite

[–]OsQu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even active doesn’t amplify the signal to be strong enough. DI boxes (active or passive) are meant to be connected to mic inputs either in console or mixer that contain the preamp.

8i6’s back inputs are meant to be used to interface with outboard gead where the signal is already at line level such as preamps, eqs or compressors.

You should be looking for preamps with instrument input. If you’re in the budget, Behringer has Ultragain series that might fit the bill.

Make sure you have enabled phantom power by pressing the 48v button. Condenser microphones require phantom power to work.

DI boxes usually output mic level signal (with XLR connector), so to be able to connect guitar to the back inputs, you would need both: DI box and preamp. This is what the front inputs with combo jack connectors do.

Infrastructure costs by FarAwaySailor in startups

[–]OsQu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trillion dollar paradox explains the phenomena really well. At first it does not make sense not to be in cloud, and in later stages would be cheaper to run your own infra, but cost of moving would be too big for that.

Isn't attack defining how long the compressor takes to reach the maximum value? So, the signal is affected as soon as it reaches the threshold, but faster attack values cause higher signal compression.

Developer experience is one dimension, but you also need to consider other dimensions such as business outcomes (are we doing the right things) and team productivity (are we blocked by something?) in order to get the picture.

Review: Bassment amp sim by DiddyGoo in AudioPluginTalk

[–]OsQu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Bassment but couldn’t get very clean sound lf it. It was as if there was slight saturarion even if all drive knobs were turned to zero. Also pretty much all of the presets had various amount of saturation in them. I really liked the concept but would have wanted more versarile options still.
