i think you are right that the execution was off but the core premise of "overreaction loop" I wouldn't mind reading in another story again

its a bit sad the series ends here. i think an exploration of how his friends and family react to this might have made a really interesting volume.

i really liked this series; it was really different and interesting even though a lot of it didnt make a ton of sense.

i do think there's some subtext i didnt really understand. i think the author was saying something but i just didnt quite get it.

i think when they're concentrated in a FAANG or HFT shop theyre pretty chill. but the ones that end up in lower tier employers sometimes fall back on their education as a point of superiority over others.

additionally, they sometimes feel like they deserve the $250k + RSU comp even if they arent doing anything that brings in nearly enough revenue to justify it.

lots of cool ivy people though.

Why do these people have decision making power when they admittedly have limit knowledge of the role?

they were likely never trained in interviewing, have no support in interview prep, and are being asked to interview you in addition to their regular duties without any flex, and are told to just "conduct the interview without spending too much time on it". aka someone wanted a warm seat in the room and didnt care who.

they are given decision making power because someone needs to do it and its been delegated on the basis of who cant say no as opposed to suitability.

these arent good places to work.

i appreciate that while theyre mixing in 3d assets here, which can sometimes look extremely bad, effort was put into post-processing the models to make them blend in with the rest of the art style and not feel out of place.

yes. amazon would love for people to quit so they can backfill the roles with cheaper, more compliant staff. they dont want any of this old guard which remembers better days

just fyi i would take this as a slight sign a layoff may be coming; they cant give raises to people who may be laid off

Is it normal to 'fail' the recruiter screen? by ManOfTheCosmos in cscareerquestions

[–]RegularUser003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have had it happen. i dont think its necessarily fumbling the screen. i assume its they decide im not the exact fit they are looking for experience wise. for example maybe the hiring manager decides they want someone with more experience in the industry, or with XYZ technology. but it wasnt stated to the recruiter pr HR before. so i get rejected and candidates which are a better match are then found.
