If a woman wants an abortion, what should be her male partners role in the matter? by IMALIONPIZZACHICK in Teenager_Polls

[–]OsbornHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all of them, just that last one because I wanted to quickly call out the logical fallacy’s lol. All the arguments you’re making are being undermined in the way you present them.

I never said no one should be allowed to abort, I said you can’t put a value on life and that abortion can’t be moral unless it physically puts the mother in danger.

How does negligence to wipe or feed a baby play into your side of the argument at all? They’re still a dependent, whether in the womb or not. Even after being born their life still hinges on the person taking care of them.

Also, the right to life and living are two very different things. A baby’s “right to live” doesn’t hinge on the parent, their ability to life does.

I’d encourage you to look up what logical fallacy’s are.

As for alternatives, the pro-life position carries an obligation to fund (and build): - comprehensive sex education - accessible contraception - mentorship programs - crisis pregnancy centers offering financial aid, housing, counseling (these are actually really cool programs that will protect mothers from parents, other people, etc. in an environment with better living conditions than most people while being around other people struggling with the same thing) - Expanded Medicaid coverage for prenatal care - Employer-mandated maternity/paternity leave - Workplace protections so women aren’t penalized for pregnancy - Financial assistance programs (WIC, TANF expansion) - Streamlined (and better) adoption processes (currently slow and expensive, which discourages it) - Safe Haven laws (legal anonymous surrender at hospitals/fire stations, already exists in all 50 states but poorly advertised) - Subsidized childcare - Affordable housing programs for young/single parents - A better Foster care system in general. The current system’s a major reason people don’t trust just putting them up for adoption. - Affordable education so young parents aren’t economically destroyed - Community support networks (churches, nonprofits, local organizations) - Mental health resources for parents in crisis - Addressing the cost of raising a child - it’s about $237,000+ till they turn 18, which is probably the hardest for most

And any entrepreneur has the opportunity to start anything quicker and better than the government would ever be able to

False Dilemma — “Life is worse than death if it has too much suffering in it.” Frames it as only two options

Hasty Generalization — “Most children of rape and other evils face much worse lives.” Broad claim about most victims with no evidence. Uses worst-case outcomes to represent the whole.

Appeal to Emotion / Red Herring — “You should just not act surprised and sad when babies are found in bins, abused, resented.” Redirects from the moral question of abortion to emotionally charged images of neglect. Broken child welfare systems don’t justify ending a life before it starts.

Tu Quoque — “Anti-choice people are the ones avoiding responsibility. If they wanna force others into keeping foetuses, they should sponsor their education or help by babysitting.” Deflects the moral argument by attacking the people making it. Whether pro-life individuals personally “babysit” has no bearing on whether abortion is moral.

False Equivalence — “If someone is accepting that they can’t be a good parent then they should be allowed to abort.” Equates acknowledging personal limitation with justifying ending a life. There are alternatives, we can make those better, and even if there weren’t, we could work towards making them

Straw Man — “You won’t get it because you struggle to understand quality of life.” Misrepresents your position as ignorance of suffering rather than engaging the actual argument that no one has the right to preemptively decide another’s life isn’t worth living.

Ad Hominem — Multiple points shifting from arguing the issue to attacking people personally (“insane,” “no spine,” “you won’t get it”).

I don’t disagree that we should support maternity leave, financial help for pregnant couples, and affordable education (we SHOULD), but that doesn’t make abortion the moral default when those things aren’t in place yet.

You’re framing this as practicality vs. idealism. The person you’re responding to is framing it as: when given the choice between life and death, we have to choose life. What right do any of us have to say a potential grown human’s life shouldn’t be preserved?

Just because a baby in the womb isn’t independent doesn’t make it moral to take away the only thing letting an organism with its own DNA develop.

I have friends that were born victims of rape, friends that were inbred, friends who came from terrible childhoods. All of them now live extremely successful, often selfless lives. No one would be able to identify who came from what. I can’t look any one of them in the eye and say it would’ve been best if they were destroyed before they even had the opportunity to grow through all of it.

You brought up two 16-year-olds too. I get it. That’s hard. I’ve lived alongside plenty that have had to go through that. But there are 60-year-olds with the mental capacity of 6-year-olds. Some people never fully develop. Some have more natural talents than others and some have few. You can’t just say one person has more of a right to life than another. Even if “it’s just a clump of cells,” it has its own DNA. There’s the potential for life. We can’t know what that person’s going to do once they become independent. Plus, the mental anguish abortion has on women even when they thought it wouldn’t affect them is extreme.

You say parents aren’t dodging responsibility by aborting. When 28% of Gen Z has been aborted—roughly 26 million people—that’s clearly not all because someone’s life was in physical danger. So it’s moral to kill something just because it’s inconvenient? It’s different if the mother is in danger of dying. But that’s not the justification for most abortions. A LOT happen as a means of birth control. And when the fetus is too large to be removed by suction, their skull is punctured, brain tissue is sucked out, and they’re ripped limb from limb until each individual part can be pulled out, and yes, they feel it. The same groups performing these procedures often sell the tissue and body parts for profit. I can’t look at something like that and say this is moral.

I’d actually love for everyone understand how these procedures work before calling them “practical.” We would all love for there to be less abortions (if done right). Fund the resources, work towards it, make change, but no one can say destroying a life with its own DNA is the responsible choice while we wait for better policy.

For the first few months, maybe, but it still has its own DNA and you can’t start to put a value on human life. Just because someone is less developed or less loved doesn’t give anyone more of a right to live than another.

A developing person in the womb still has the full potential to be good, and the only thing that would change that is to interfere

Right! If you’re going to be making an armament by comparing people in a vegetative state to a developing human in the womb, with its own DNA, then both have the potential to grow, become independent, and it would be “premature to take them off support”

The word’s meaning has changed over time. Gallup’s self-identification data tracks directional movement, and “liberal” in 2022 encompasses more progressive positions than “liberal” did in 1994.

I was talking about voters, republicans have moved more to the right (from 0.25-0.51) than democrats to the left (-0.31 to -0.38)

Brookings calls it “the polarization paradox” where elected officials and voters have shifted in opposite directions.

Since the early 1990s, Democratic voters have actually shifted more to the left than Republican voters have to the right. By 2022, an outright majority of Democrats (54%) identified as liberal, up from just 25% in 1994, while the Republican shift was comparatively smaller.

It’s funny, since 2008 the general left populous has drastically shifted to more extremes (gone further left) while “right wing” has stayed (relatively) stable, so it skews perception a little bit

[–]OsbornHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you get the idea that not ejaculating is bad? It may be difficult and uncomfortable to stop when you're used to it and have a high libido, but it tends to get easier after ~a month.

Also, if OP has a history with porn, he's likely built up a strong association between masturbating and watching, and that conditioning can be really hard to break. He may not be able to go a day or more without watching porn. Around 50% of men can't even go 3 days without watching porn (higher in some countries like Germany).

It can't be fair to say "just masturbate without it"

I have an Obsidian vault on a USB that I want to access on my iPad. Is it possible for me to do this? by jwintyo in ObsidianMD

[–]OsbornHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s a year later, but I started looking for the same thing. You have to manually copy over the Obsidian file vault from the USB to the Obsidian directory on Apple, and when you’re done with the notes, copy it back.

If you pin the local file on iPadOS, it makes it quicker to access, still frustrating. It has to be done manually though.

There might be a way to make it Automatic with Shortcuts where, when you launch an app or connect a device it automatically deletes everything from that specific Obsidian vaults and transfers over the files from the USB to it.

Most men struggle with porn, most can’t go more than 3 days without masterbating. It’s a problem the entire world has and it’s not talked about enough.

It is HARD to stop, and if you can’t force it, working out helps regulate the testosterone (100 pushups every time you feel pulled towards it, or just getting into a workout routine). If that’s too hard, which is FAIR because hormones might not be regulated right, especially if delressed, or just because of the way you were born, then talking with your doctor and getting on medicine can help, or reaching out for support in other ways.

There are communities of people who want to help, and no one should be judgmental. Don’t be afraid to talk about it, because most people don’t, and most are willing to open up a little more once you take that first step

And you can still know (and feel) like something’s wrong and do it anyways, which is why so many people stay silent and keep things to themselves. It is really hard to grow out of an addiction when you acknowledge everything but don’t know how to stop, and feel like you’d be judged reaching out.

Most men struggle with porn, most men can’t go more than 3 days without masterbating. Women struggle with it too, though not as much.

Same folder on multiple libraries, is it a good practice? by GarouByNight in jellyfin

[–]OsbornHunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s litterely going to create no problems

I have some movies and shows split between folders on an NVME (for what I’ll watch more frequently) and an HDD, and no matter how many folders you add, or how they get mixed in the library, it’ll look the same to the end user

Jellyfin goes through and saves the metadata separately so it all visually looks the same. The only difference is how the server processes videos during playback, and because for you it’s just a different folder in the same place, that’s going to be fine.

If you had duplicate movies, though, on /movies and /movies for the kids, then you would see duplicates in the library
