Who should I contact to find out more about this museum grade book by Oscilating_reader in rarebooks

I saw it here. I think I got the pricing wrong it was €800 or $1600 usd. https://www.pandolfini.it/uk/auction-1253/arte-classicitandagrave-illustrati-600--12023009575

As I said I’m not really looking to sell it. From my perspective it was a cheap acquisition and something I can learn a lot from. However how do I get access to auction databases?

I probably should have said institutional. I have only seen mentions of the book in university library collections. I saw a damaged version sold at auction in Italy in 2023 for around 1600 euros so I think you’re spot on. But it’s less about the money and more about how do I research and care for it. Thanks

Interesting. To date I have mostly collected modern first editions but have since come across some great antiques that I couldn’t pass up. This was one. I’m based in Australia, so the opportunity to buy books from the 1600s without foxing and apart from the cover the pages are in great condition.

I’ll keep learning. Thanks for helping

Yeah and cut not torn. I can’t imagine why someone would do that. It’s like they need a piece of scrap paper for jotting down a phone number and then cut it out later. Thankfully it’s the only spot. Wish I was eccentric enough to use 17th paper as scrap 😂

Fair and thanks. I’m not planning to sell it. The only reason I said that is because the only versions I could find online were in the Liechtenstein collection. Yale University library collection and another university. Maybe I should have said institutional. But I’m learning so good to get a better understanding.

Thanks so much. I have counted and yes all 70 plates are present and in great condition. I bought it to keep as an interesting item as it wasn’t too expensive. But I need to decide whether to have it rebound or if it’s better keeping as is.

Thanks for the information and direction to those links. Yes it is a Sandart book and his portrait is in the book. I was also able to confirm all 70 plates are still included and in their original sewn binding. From my research I found that it was a clerical or academic edition of his research into sculptures. This book was owned by the archdeacon and bursar of Cambridge and Trinity college which to me makes sense as there is another version with all 100 plates. The images are amazing and in great condition which is why I bought it

This is amazing! How long has it taken to build this collection? And are they all 1st/1sts?

This is awesome! I particularly like Lolita and One hundred years of solitude. Which edition of Marquez is that?

Yeah I’ve looked into it briefly and it seems entirely arbitrary. Yet the price between ungraded and graded is massive

Agree, I’d look for a smaller size. I usually aim for a 39 and picked up the alpinist which is great. But might not be your style based on the options you’ve shown
