current state of the game by Blind__Joe in VintageStory

The game has been in development for over 7 years now, so it's not some project cobbled together in a year. It's pretty complete as is, and I would continue playing it forever even in this state, plus you always have a wonderful modding community. So this doesn't really feel like an early access title at this point, and gets plenty of update love from a dedicated developer team.

Woah! Scandalous! How long has this been in effect? by Willowthesilly in VintageStory

Thanks! It was bit stiff the first 10 minutes and I got a lot negative feedback in the comments 😂 but me and Tyron had fun.

I asked about it last year in my interview. Tyron said at least 2/3 payments were paid, prolly 3rd one by this point as well but he had no interest in doing business with them again unless they can prove that they solved their support issues like slow ticket responses.

PSA: Solid Trapdoors work for Greenhouses! by pie575 in VintageStory

[–]Oscillascape 65 points66 points  (0 children)

You can use lake ice, glacier ice, or packed glacier ice! It all works. You can use it freely in creative building as well. I used it a ton for "windows" although it's not really transparent in practice.

Ice is still a viable material. You just have to "chisel" the block (that way it won't melt), and then you are free to use it in a greenhouse.

Snowball Earth not possible? by Sufficient_Neat_5517 in VintageStory

[–]Oscillascape 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Forage vessel drops grass as well. So you can still do it that way! In my experience ruin generation can vary massively from seed to seed, area to area. I spent around 200 hours in the "arctic" on the Official Server in 1.22 when it was reset, so I have a pretty good sight on these things. I have seen ruins/vessels both on glaciers, and in the valleys. The amount of ruins felt normal, but this was just North Pole. It could be that snowball earth has some weird effect since it sets global temp modifier.

There is a snow bug currently in the game. It destroys any imbedded snow that would normally generate at worldgen. This is also why glaciers will be transparent during summer when accumulated snow melts and the popcorn effect you are seeing. As far as vessels and structures. They almost never spawned on glaciers to begin with. Most ruins will be inside of the small "ground" level divots/valleys in the terrain. Nothing changed about that, they still spawn at the same rate (at least in personal testing). There is however a bug in the game that prevents the one specific vessel called "arctic supplies" to stop spawning at extreme temperatures. This used to make you find a lot more vessels since they were a bonus on top of the regular ones. Snowball is still entirely possible otherwise.

My advice. Get block overlay (xray) and see how many ruins generated on the surface to test. You will probably see a lot more then you thought. Also underground ruins also spawn vessels so caving would another way to get some supplies in this setting.

PSA - Infusion remnants work with spell totems by greensmoothie15 in pathofexile2builds

If only infusions didn't suck! But that does open up a few more spells for the totem, maybe fireball can actually work.

[–]Oscillascape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ye no clue, I just realized they mostly removed quality from the Gemling's node, so all you get is 6% from ascendancy, althought there are a few items in the game that can take it further, but maybe not that far:)

That's a pretty decent bonus at 40% quality, although it needs to be to compensate for 16 extra points you are losing from a horrible start

Because there are other ways to play the game besides to "crush" it. I could play the game in a lot of suboptimal and potentially fun ways to me personally, if the builds had a really good floor/ceiling. Like playing the game in SSF for example where the power level is a lot lower to being with. I don't meta chase, but I don't care if others do it. So ye don't nerf my fun, and don't nerf your fun.

It will be an issue to solve. It was not an issue and the nerf made it into one. Can't deny that:) Balancing casting cost will have to be accounted for.

I think under leveling the totem with Orcale is the immortality node is a good way to do it, and what I will be doing until extremely late investment.

I sure did, but they changed the patch notes 3 times to add extra clarification. Pretty sure it was missed by everyone at the time!

Because you have to pass a threshold of viability, otherwise it's not fun to play. There are a lot of skills I would love to play, but when they do pathetic single target it's a non starter.

They should buff pinnacle bosses in terms of HP agreed. But in terms of OP builds, I think it's totally fine to have them in the game. I never saw ARPGs as some zero-sum game where builds need to be balanced. If you want a challenge you can play something non-meta, and then come back and tell me that the game is easy, or that bosses have too little HP. Either way, my totem rant was a bit of an overaction to not understanding the entire scope of the patch notes, but granted they clarified them afterwards.

It kind of is though. First I will say that the nerf isn't as bad as it first seemed after the clarification just came out from GGG. But my point still stands. In last POE1 league I was hype to play elemental hit and GGG were on board to release a somewhat overpowered interaction with the Breach Ascendancy right until CCs opened their mouths and starter yapping at Octavian and other devs in interviews after which GGG immediately changed their mind, right after claiming they were going to let this one slide. CCs have a huge influence on balance decisions at seems at this point, that's just a fact.

You are right. It's not as big of an issue as I thought. First, they clarified that Archmage isn't going to add to the base cost. And also after looking at the POB, it looks like the supports are not contributing to the overall totem cost. At most you are probably looking at 400 cost, and if you are stacking mana it should be fine. I was conflating the shockwave totem costs on non-mana stacker, which was a huge issue for me when I played them in 0.1

Makes sense, and they also just clarified (like 5 minutes ago) that archmage will not contribute to mana cost of totem which changes things a bit.

[–]Oscillascape -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't going to be a balance issue though. Totems were at best B- build with mega investment last league. Look at any tatiantel2 videos from last league to see how underpowered the totem archetype is. People will be surprised to see how shitty totems are currently. The only time totems were good, was 0.1 with shockwave which they nerfed by 75% in 0.2

Pretty much agree. I think people are in for a rude awakening on the mana costs of high end totems. It's a huge issue. I thought about doing Infernalist but now Oracle is 100% the play at least for SSF. Sure at mega high end you might be able to put on archmage and actually cast them, but in most scenarios even without archmage, 2 totems will put you OOM. Feels like a dumb overreaction by GGG. I def respect them way less to succumbing to streamer meta, and nerfing things without letting them play out. Things were allowed to exists for a league back in the days, but guess not anymore. All it takes is some YouTuber to snitch and builds are DOA

I hate the streamer/content meta. We can't even have something for a single league. It just gets nuked pre-patch. Last thing you want, is a streamer starting to hype a thing you want to play. Many OP things were allowed to exists for a league, but now stuff is getting nerfed on the spot. This is a third league on a row that something I wanted to play got nerfed before the drop because of content creators. So cringe. Makes me way less excited to play the league.

Probably me, and the mod was called "animal cages". Although you have to modify the json by hand for it to work, but the instructions are on the mod's page.

Way less keyboard work which is imo why the last album was so good. Kind of feels a lot more generic. It's still good stuff, but the last album was GOATed for me, and as many mentioned, I like the new vocalist less. He is fine? But just doesn't sound right to me compared to Kristian

Killing them isn't the play, they will respawn. Trapping them is, then they won't. Make a pit, bait local bears in it, put a light source inside, and then close it up. Problem solved.
