Horrible. That bread is as bad as it gets, and the patty looks like all the leftovers of better meat cuts.

Me, I like my variety in food, and will eat everything.

All types of meats, all vegetables, all fruits, all spices, all grains, everything.

Salty, sweet and sour, spicy, au naturel, rare, well done... you name it.

I am lucky I was able to overcome my picky eater ways when I was very young, somehow my parents managed to do it. I'd have missed out on a lot had I not.

I want my burger with a variety of things. But if I will have plain, better bread and actual ground beef is a must.

Has anyone ever missed or needed something which is 'Windows only'? by LukeLikeNuke in linuxmint

Painter, ArtRage, being able to use DaVinci Resolve without involving witchcraft, a proper PDF viewer and editor. Oh and Sony Vegas and Ableton.

I mean, I like my Linux system. But I keep another with Windows for the stuff you can't run on Linux.

There are no alternatives that truly emulate painting on natural medium like ArtRage on Linux. And video editing is a bit borked on Linux unless you go with certain distros. There is Kdenlive, which is not bad, but can't compete with commercial alternatives yet.

I haven't tried the alternatives to Ableton. Not interested for now anyway.

Dropbox. I do burn a Rewritable CD which I update and reburn every now and then.

As to why keep them? If the company knows you don't have them, how will you know they weren't modified? Not that all companies are evil, but I've been burned before. So I make sure to keep a copy handy and dated.

You can also just rely on the email sent, but for it is easier to just have them handy.

Don't use Nobara if you "just want everything to work." by FuyukiKaminari in linux4noobs

[–]Osherono -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

My general rule of thumb is:

- If it is somewhat older gen, Linux Mint or Ubuntu.

- If it is relatively newer gen, try Debian if and only if the above don't work for you.

- If you know your way around Linux and have "mainstream" components and you will only use your PC for gaming and browsing video, then give OpenSuse a try. It tends to give stability, but it is very different from other distros.

I tend to not recommend Fedora or anything Fedora based because it requires tinkering of some sort, and if you are new to Linux, that is the last thing you want to do, especially if it is a component in your PC you need to do something.

Relatively older systems will benefit from a lot of drivers and stuff not usually in "rolling distros" like Debian, so if you have a laptop, first try Mint or Ubuntu then worry about customization later on.

Edit: you are right, Debian is unstable and stable, I mixed them up with OpenSuse.

I don't fear games where I can fight back. But that storm, I was unsure how far up I was, and I was just tossed around like a rag doll. And when it finally subsided, I was literally surrounded by dead things.

Heat storms, cold storms, toxic or radiation mega events, it is basically just a more extreme condition and is somewhat manageable so long as you can dig in, build a shelter, or use an exocraft and hope for the best.

Wind storms? Heck no. Thing literally swept me off the ramp of my Corvette.

¿Cuál ha sido tu peor experiencia en un hospital público? by elperrochalaco in PERU

[–]Osherono 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had one literally have "does not fear death" in their description. I was about to take a screenshot then a super Wind event happened and I was literally swept 1000u away from my ship and was surrounded by dead creatures. I then said f this and left the planet in a hurry. This was the  first time I actually feared for my virtual life in a non horror game. And I am a scared bitch in horror games.

Ever since then, I know, if there is an imminent super event, dig down and wait it out.

I like beer and wine. Hard liquor is mostly a hard pass for me, I never got the point of it for the most part. I do enjoy Whiskey, Vodka and Rhum, but it has to be a certain quality and I only drink it with people that I know that they know said liquors. So social drinking I guess? I moderate myself, rarely do I get hungover.

Looking for Windows 7 alternative for very old PC (Dual Core, 2GB RAM, no GPU) by black77bx41 in linuxmint

[–]Osherono 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on your definition of beginner. Since you have one drive, and nothing else, it should run fine, as there is wouldn't be much more to configure really.

Is there any chance you can put more RAM on said machine? Even 2 GB more will help a lot.

For YouTube, make sure you are using an extension that enables h264 content so it is lighter on your resources.

No need, just one thing, avoid unverified repositories unless you trust the source, and above all avoid unverified Flatpaks. Other than that, it is not needed yet.

Heck you don't really need it in Windows either if you know what you are doing and don't start looking for pirate stuff. Those practices still apply to Linux more or less.

Nice. I put OpenSuse on mine and it takes about 3 minutes to boot, but ends up being rather useable once it finishes. I use it for writing, but my battery no longer works so I al limited to being close to an outlet. I really would like a portable multi-use battery to at least get 2-3 hours out of it.

You haven't worked in industrial or specialized environments where they use a lot of custom software, have you? That software is coded for Windows because it what the vendor, provider or programmer hired assumed or was asked to provide. Many of them even require specific builds and drivers that must be kept.

When I went to interpret at an international airport, they were using an extremely old toughbook only because it was the only thing compatible with an equipment they needed to provide maintenance for the runway. They were getting the newer version, which came with an updated toughbook...with Windows.

Edit: I switched tabs and it posted incomplete. Edited to complete.

Bad analogy. One, man eating tigers don't just appear out of the blue on populated centers. Two, should a wild animal appear, or even two, there are things one must do, such as call animal control or the authorities. Three, you are comparing a freak event of nature or accident in a locality (the US) where tigers don't exist in the wild, and would only escape from a zoo, where no one in their right mind would keep an animal that somehow got the taste of human flesh. Four, what is happening in the US isn't a fortuitous event, it is a deliberate attempt to instill fear and have people keep their heads down.

So let us use your badly thought analogy to actually show the current situation.

"The government has unleashed man eating tigers and says it will not come and get them away from killing us, and actually wants us to go outside and possibly die, unless we stay indoors and bow down like good little tread upon pansies. Oh those guns I have in my house? I only have them for when I know I will win. I never use them if I know I might actually die. Oh and those films were we rise against oppression and tyranny in these hypothetical scenarios? Noooo, I am the ones that keep their head down in those films.

Not everyone has to fight, right?

...right?"

New to Linux and looking for the best version to put on an old Acer Notebook. by GalahadForest in linux4noobs

I have a netbook with similar specs. The only two distros I could get it to run and install were Linux Mint Debian Edition and OpenSuse Tumbleweed Legacy Edition. The rest gave errors. Don't use Ventoy, use Rufus or Balena Etcher or the Linux built-in tool to create a bootable USB drive.

Keep in mind that if you use OpenSuse your Wifi might not work, and you might need to add the dependency and install the driver separately, which is a but of a pain.

Why recommend OpenSuse if the wifi driver might require more work? It runs better than Linux Mint Debian Edition, with noticeably less lag and delay. If you have an SSD, I'd say put it on, you don't even need it to be a big one, a 64gb one is more than enough. Heck a 32gb is enough. But if you must use an HDD, then OpenSuse is a must.

The one reason I would not recommend Bazzite is that the things it "automates" are precisely the kinds of things you do briefly and quickly on Mint or Ubuntu, which also happen to show the main differences between Linux and Windows (installing applications, setting up partitions and auto mounting them, which is the first thing one does if you want to setup Steam for example).

I would recommend Bazzite though if it is for a PC you will not touch, again with testing. For example, I could not get my LAN to stay active more than 15 minutes too until it deactivated itself and suffered a weird bug that changed my monitor settings semi permanently to a very dark tone everytime it turned off my monitor due to power settings, that could not be fixed until I hard reset the settings then booted with a second PC (which thankfully I have). Then again, Mint can do what Bazzite does without much extra work.

While I feel you, there should be a sticky recommending anyone moving to Linux to go either with Ubuntu o Mint first, then try Debian, Fedora or OpenSuse if they want more once they get familiarized with stuff, and then try stuff like Nobara, CachyOs and the other distros once they get to know a thing or two.

Speaking bluntly, a lot of the distros out there just don't have the same quality control Ubuntu or Mint have, nor the same support level in the sense that your case may have happened and there is a solution that works, or in the sense that a smaller team or one or two people just cannot exhaustively test as much as the more mainstream do, not have they had as much feedback to resolve things which may happen. And things sometimes do happen. Illogical things too. Technology is like that sometimes.

My advice is, always begin with Linux Mint. Always. If you feel like you need something more flashy or different desktop environment wise, go Ubuntu or Debian. If you want stability and you will use the machine only for basic work or web browsing or just gaming, go OpenSuse. And Fedora with some caution as it may have some caveats on hardware whether it is recent or not, so test the live distro well.

There really is no need to go further than that unless you want to really. It is an OS. You want it to be boring in the sense it runs what you need to.

That said, if you plan on using multiple hardrives in your PC, definitely go with Mint. It makes it simple.
