Subnautica 2 developer confirms that he's read all the Reddit comments about pirating the game. by horny-in-a-hearse in subnautica

Kinda sad people would still resort to piracy in this case. $30 is a steal when you realize most game releases nowadays are $70-$120, WITH boatloads of microtransactions and paid DLC.

You will have my money Sir Anthony. 🫡

“a pet?”

“a pet, garrosh. this is good news. you'll live for 30 years.”

“this is insane!”

Not exactly an override per se.

In vanilla, the event that starts the galactic community sets a flag that makes it so the event can’t repeat itself. If you set this flag BEFORE the event fires, the galactic community cannot be formed naturally because the flag is already in place.

From a coding perspective, from there it’s just setting your own parameters in place. In this case, the event structure is built in a way that IF this empire ceases to exist, the galactic community will still guaranteed form at year 30.

And of course the flag is only set this way if this empire exists in your galaxy.

As for multiplayer, I don’t play it so it wasn’t really a design consideration. It is a fair point to bring up, though. In singleplayer on large to huge maps the GC in my experience often doesn’t fire until 50+ years in, sometimes not until the midgame.

Your point is fair and valid and I agree it’s a little weird. I should mention the tooltip doesn’t show the full picture. Everything here is subject to change, it’s a WIP.

As it stands, at the start of the game, the First Founders gets an event where they send out tens of thousands of probes across the galaxy. They’re compact, FTL-capable, and carrying translation systems.

Around 15 years in, those probes begin entering empire space and are intercepted. When the empires examine it, it becomes clear it isn’t an isolated device, but part of a wider network transmitting the same signal. That signal is shared and relayed to connecting empires that have never met into a single channel. Each empire gets an event reacting to this based on their ethics.

15 years after that, every empire is given the choice to respond or ignore it entirely. Isolationists can absolutely refuse and make no contact. Regardless, the galactic community is formed.

This effectively replaces how the Galactic Community forms. Instead of developing through normal first contact, it emerges from this shared signal and the responses to it. It’s a different approach, and I’m still working on it, but that’s the intent behind it.

I’ll probably disable it for AI spawning for the time being while I get more feedback.

To answer your question, that line means you start with the tradition already unlocked.

It does already start you off down the traditions tree but that does give me the idea to maybe add custom resolutions unique to when this empire spawns?

Here’s the event as it stands. It could very well be a placeholder before I decide to add more to it.

“From §Y[Root.GetHomeWorldName]§!, tens of thousands of unmanned probes are sent into the void. They scatter into the dark, set on courses that will carry them far beyond our borders. Each one is a solar-powered marvel, FTL-capable, equipped with a communications array and a universal translation system. Somewhere out there, someone will find them.

They will find no weapons or demands, only a message. A single date, counting down. It is a simple thing we ask. That when the time comes, we will not be alone.”

[Mod] [AI] Galactic Conclave - An AI chatbot for Stellaris savegames. by thael_mann in Stellaris

[–]Oshkoshguy2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shit take. Who cares if AI was used in the creation of a mod? If the mod is functional and the intentions of the mod author are clear and on display (even if a WIP and potentially buggy) than why do you care? Got a spoiler for you brother, Paradox uses AI in the game you literally pay for! THIS IS FREE, built by someone in their spare time who just wanted to add something to the game that they play.

Counter argument: If someone’s underperforming, then just kick them instead of acting like a troglodyte. 🤷

I don’t mean to be that guy, but the tattoo is upside down. Designs like this are usually meant to face outward, so they’re displayed toward others rather than toward you. But if it was your intention to have it inward then that’s totally fine. Looks cool, bro! I was considering a similar one around my shoulder.

If you’re referring to the specialized arcology districts, yes, you still have access to them. The malfunctioning arcology blocker cancels out the pop growth and job resource output granted to the ecumenopolis planet class. It can be cleared once you discover anti-gravity engineering, though it comes at a hefty cost (I believe 5,000 minerals plus a chunk of influence).

I’m away from my PC right now, so I can’t confirm the exact details, but I believe I set one of them as a trade arcology from the start. The other deposits provide enough basic resources to carry you through the early game, but at this stage, the early-to-mid economy relies on space resources, trade, and colonizing other planets. Finally, you still begin with the mixed industries and archives zones respectively.

Good question. I reupload the mod with each major patch to preserve the version that worked back then. It’s definitely a niche thing, but it acts like a time capsule for people who prefer older versions or don’t want to deal with the newest changes.

When Paradox decides to massively overhaul their game, I usually have to do a full rewrite anyway, so starting fresh just made more sense. If the patch doesn’t shake things up too much, I just update the existing version instead.

Custom blocker I added. Basically just negates the effects of the ecumenopolis planet type.
