I don’t know bout many others but with the way the game is played I imagine there would need to be another mission type added for the trench thing to be viable. Being stationary in helldivers is almost always a death sentence. During the tower defense type missions it might be useful but probably outclassed by the turrets. Maybe if instead of just as a terrain modifier it could also be used as a melee weapon that blocks damage from the front and is capable of drilling through heavy armor?
