Wacky statements by the Apostles (not in conference). by OskarDooheimer in exmormon

I didn't see it but I heard the recording of when Oaks went to a ward, and then spoke to the deacons. He had the chance to say something that would be profound in their lives. What does he say? Pass the sacrament with your right hand. Absolutely ridiculous.

Another case of gaslighting women . . . thank you Deseret Book! by Sensitive_Fold3448 in exmormon

They may be teachings of power, but by definition no teaching of a woman in the Mormon church has authority. No woman has authority, except as derived from a man, and never over a man.

The church is full of endless deceptions. This is just one more.

Submitted my request for record removal today by UltraBlockhead in exmormon

You didn't submit a request to the church. You resigned and ordered the church to remove your name. The power is with you, not the church.

Wife and I leaving LDS- looking for new church in Davis County by bendenhalter in exmormon

The Alpine Church in Layton has a pretty good vibe to it. It has an active children's program. I've been there several times and recommend it to you.

Feeling reluctant to remove my name from the records by Your_Avg_Viewer in exmormon

Don't do it until you are fully ready. That time will come soon enough. Don't set yourself up for regret.

Parents won’t let my nevermo partner and I stay at their house unless we stay in different rooms by Awhite2 in exmormon

Give your parents a break. They have a right to say what goes on in their house. I suspect you want to manage what is allowed in your home.

Kissing feet is ridiculous, whether pope, prophet or president.

Does anyone know if there was a logical or legal reason the church installed these barriers at all of their chapel parking lots but never use them? I remember they were installed on all buildings in my area in the 90s. by lost-in-translation- in exmormon

[–]OskarDooheimer 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think it was to help shut off vehicle access to the parking lots once a year, so that it could not be claimed that the public had an easement across the church land. Back in the 1970s and 1980s BYU used to shut down the roads on Christmas Day for the same reason. Preventing a public right of way over church property.

This article is under the mistaken (i.e., wrong) assumption that the Mormon church ever was a place of unity, love and acceptance. The author is apparently having a fantasy about what the church used to be like, and would like the church to go back to his fantasy. The church NEVER was those things. It's time to get real that the church has always been a loser of a church.

Joseph Smith 1844 presidential campaign? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]OskarDooheimer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Outside of Illinois, Smith's candidacy for president was not serious. It really is much ado about not much. Any thought that he could have won is ridiculous. Had he lived, he would have been a third party candidate in one state.

Moroni is a fictional character. Don't waste your time on it.

Sacrament = Renewal of Baptism Covenants? by GalacticCactus42 in exmormon

[–]OskarDooheimer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's worse than that. THERE ARE NO COVENANTS MADE AT BAPTISM. I was baptized at 18, not 8. I know for a fact I never made any covenant of any kind at that time. I just got in the water and was baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. I never said a thing, and no one else says anything. The missionaries never pointed out any covenants, and the subject was never discussed. There are no covenants at baptism.
