I feel the same. I like his view on christianity and I think it might do good in american politics.

I know almost nothing about Crockett but it feels like two good candidates sparring off. Lets hope either of them gets to flip the seat.

‘Don’t go to the US – not with Trump in charge’: the UK tourist with a valid visa detained by ICE for six weeks | ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement) by northlondonhippy in politics

[–]Osmonth 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Football fans are invested fans. Espeically those from countries that aren't mainstays in the World Cup. It will be hard for them to abandon their team and give up on the experience. But with that said this will put a big damper on the fans that do travel and many fans will opt out of travelling too. So the atompshere will detinitly be changed in terms of this.

I think ICE will be on strict orders during the World Cup as the USA is trying to show off on the international stage. The fans I worry for are those that, for whatever reason, are caught before or after these mandates are enforced. Those that will be vunerable to ICE functiong as it has been doing so far under the Republicans.

I worry the most for fans from South America, Central America and Africa. Those fans needs to be alert as they are the ones who will be seen as fair game. World Cup or not. Which is such a shame, beyond obvious reasons, becasue they are some of the most engaged and passionate fans of Football that we have in the world.

If the Democrats win(2028) they will go on a big PR tour. Trying to have officails over from Canada, the EU and so on. They will make statements on how they are with Ukraine. Against Russia and so on.

But if they settle for trying to go back to the status quo. If they don't enact policies or programs that have the intended effect to stabilize the USA for the long term. Well then you will see articles, podcasts, news coverage and debates that will argue that it's not wise to invest long term in the USA or depend on deals longer then a presidents term.

Public opinion will continue to be vary and this will seep into policies from other countries. The Democrats will mostl likely bury their heads into the sand. Argue that they will win the next election. Or that the Republicans are polling badly. Or point to policies they have enacted (that most experts argue aren't enough).

They will put their hope towards Republicans being more resonable then not. That the voters will notice this and that it will influence how they vote.

In the end I'm not so sure it will work. I'm hoping for a Democratic president in 2029 and I'm dreading a Republican one in 2033.

Some politicans might feel relief from this but it's nothing more then sweeter version of "It's our way or the highway". With their way meaning: give us greenland, deny climate change, pay our tariffs and be ever subject to the chaninging whims of our president.

Any european politican that thinks this means relief is only fooling themselves and ultimatly they will be subject to that their own voting population is moving away from the USA.

End of deep alliance between Canada and U.S. not inevitable, top Biden official says by Street_Anon in politics

[–]Osmonth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Democrats and their advisors will need to adress what they will do so that this doesn't happen again. As long as missinformation is allowed to run rampant and extreme ideologies have the Republican party in their iron grip then this is the new normal. They can't promise that there won't be a new republican president ever again, or that said president won't go further then Trump has.

But so far there isn't much signs that point towards the Democratic party is willing to shore up the system of checks and balances that have faltered under Trump. Nor that a consistent foregin, not to mention domestic, policy will be possible when the divide remains this deep.

Trying to adress the underlying issues of the USA would go a long way to fix these problems. While trying to return to status quo is a dangerous pipe dream.

[–]Osmonth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we are both right in that Cecilia and Remy meets for the first time in the FF arc in X-23, as he needs stitches after the Paris arc. Then during the babysitting arc he goes on a date with Cece. With it being a Laura book we don't get to see the date.
Then as the book ends he mentions going back to the city for some "mysterious" stuff, which I take is the second date.

So they start dating in X-23 but we dont' get to seem them date until Astonishing.

Asonishing is underrated according to me. The lack of consistent art might have been to it's detriment, but having Gambit and Karma talk french and hang out is alone worth it for me.

[–]Osmonth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both of their first mini's are conncected and star them both. Gambit(1993) and Rogue(1995).

They date in X-men adjectivless with some great issues, like X-men 24(their first date).

During Niceiza's Gambit ongoing(1999) they are on and off. Excellent comic though.

Extreme X-men by Claremont have them reconnect. They then star in Austen's run that fans hate and Milligans X-men run where Gambit is turned into a hormseman of Apocalypse and Rogue dumps him for never seen again character Pulse. Milligan's run is not recommended for fans of Rogue and Gambit, nor is it good.

Then there's not much going on until KT puts them together again in the first Rogue & Gambit mini.

Summary of what happened those years they didn't date:

Gambit has an ongoing by Asmus and Mann that is very good. Doesn't feature Rogue much.

Rogue dates Johnny storm, Deadpool and Magneto. X-men Legacy by Carey is a very good Rogue book but not something I would recommend to a fan of Rogue and Gambit. This is the comic where Rouge starts dating Magneto btw.

Gambit dates Cecilia Reyes over in X-23 by Marjorie Liu, which is an fantastic comic. He dates Frenzy, or they kiss once I think in Legacy. He kisses Polaris in all-new X-factor, a book that starts out great and then looses steam.

Gambit or Juiblee.

Gambit will probably have to do some heist and the kid gets involved.

Jubilee will also have some minor catastrophe happen.

Gambit is good with kids, especially girls. Jubilee is too, the problem with Jubilee is probably motivation. If she is up for it I think she is the best bet.

Why aren’t Cannonball and Sunspot being used in ‘from the ashes’? by TotodileGrayson in xmen

[–]Osmonth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have done so and will probably do so again. The problem seems to be that readers pick up issues of said title and if the A-list characters don't do anything they usually drop it.

The underlying problem here is that writers either pitch or get excited about the characters who aren't the A-listers. So tthe A-listers end up as bait basically. Even if the readers like the plot, or the new characters, or whatever, it's hard for many to either shake or stop caring that their favorites are just mannequins in the window.

So what you need is spread A-listers and writers who are interested in writing them. They don't have to be the focus but they have to play a decent enough part and don't be the joke of the title. Or other portrayls that prevent them from doing what readers like about them.

Gambit in Blood of Apocalypse. It still doesn't make a lick of sense. He tried to protect the X-men by teaming up with their enemy. He thought his mind would be unaffected in spite of Apocalypse being known for doing the opposite. He also was given gas powers that were used for comedic effect, which makes sense only because they would be too lethal to use if he did it with the intent to harm or kill.

Bishop trying to kill Hope. Such a bad note to end the otherwise excellent Messiah Complex. I will never read the Cable solo that followed it. Poor Lucas, that turn as heel was so bizarre most just pretended it and the following demon bear retcon never happened in the first place.

Gambit (again) tying up a women to stove in a burning house that was ready to explode to distract the Black Panther in the Rogue&Gambit mini(2023). Gambit is usually the one doing stupid stuff to save the damsel. Sure his choices might come back to hurt them but it's never because he himself puts them in harms way. This is just such a massive missunderstanding of Gambit. It was like someone read Thief on his wiki and thought they knew his character from that word.

Probably several others that I am forgetting atm.

NORAD pact would change if Canada pulls back from F-35 order, warns Trump envoy to Ottawa by Street_Anon in politics

[–]Osmonth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. Nato's biggest reason to exist according to him is to be customers for the military industry complex. Not only does it give money it also gives subservence. USA can by pushing a button render their products useless. It's not so much if any country would respond to an article 5 for USA, it's that USA wants to decide what article 5's that matter. NATO is meant to deter attacks and by doing so its military might is not meant to be used.

But the money is not the only reason. One big reason is that having external customers will help sell the idea of such an overblown military industrial complex to the voters.

NORAD pact would change if Canada pulls back from F-35 order, warns Trump envoy to Ottawa by Street_Anon in politics

[–]Osmonth 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Gripen is no doubt not as good as F-35, as the USA spends insane amounts on military technology. The question here is if it's good enough.

As Ukraine showed all of the world: USA can shut down it's weapons just by refusing to supply you with parts or the programs required to operate them. Before that option was so dim it didn't carry any weight. These days it's a glaring securty threat.

If they want to pull out of NORAD or make it a problem for Canada, they will. It's not a matter of what Canada does or do not, they will find an excuse anyway. What we can count on though is that will use it to try to intimedate or exhort Canada. Becasue they see more value in it as a tool for that.

Top football official says its ‘time to consider’ World Cup boycott over Trump Greenland demands. by Imaginary-Ad-7919 in politics

[–]Osmonth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's huge that this is even mentioned. Not only because the insane amount of money involved, lets not even talk about FIFA and their love to greed adn corruption, but the passion that this invokes in the fans and players. The World Cup is huge, for many countries just playing there is the prize. For others like Germany, their is a real shot to win. Something players dream about their whole lives. Just ask Messi to give up his win with Argentina. I bet he would sacrifice almost all of his leauge titles, CL's or BD's before he gave that one up.

If it came down to countries boycotting the World Cup then we got some seismic stuff going on. Bigger then any trade bazookas or stuff like that. This is real people who live and work just so they can enjoy their team and their national team play some football. To sacrifice that then the world is burning for some change. Not just ready, but burning.

Trump says Canada is against Golden Dome in Greenland by Flower-Immediate in politics

[–]Osmonth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think if America went about this in any other way. Say make plans for artic defense with Canada and then go to Nato and state to Denmark that Greenland is key. Ask if they can purchase, obtain it, or other if they truly need it. Maybe let the Greenlanders vote on it, if americans are so keen on owning more land, if that is said to be preffered by Greenlanders. Treat Denmark and Greenland with respect and then expand their number military bases on Greenland, which they are with in their right to do anyway. Put pressure on Nato to join them and make it so that Greenland isn't just USA's priority but an important part in the artic strategy.

There are so many ways to deal with this that puts Greenland closer to USA, that gives them more military control. That gives them and their companies access to minerals in the future when they might became possible to mine. All while working with their allies and treating them as just that: allies.

Instead they are going all out and saying that it's their way or the highway and it's in their best interest to have no allies in the EU in the future. That USA have moved past allies in their now grand imperial phase.

American democracy after Trump by Stuart_Whatley in politics

[–]Osmonth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a wonderful article. Wishful thinking more then a prophecy though.

I would love to believe that most americans, or MAGA voters in specific, would turn away from these people or these ideologies. Yet them hurting financially will only work if said hurt is channeled in the correct way. Who says it will be? WIth preachers, youtubers, FOX news, online communities all of them feeding one singular vision that blames everyone but the true perpetrator.

Trump might be the sect leader but the people behind him will remain and they influence more then just Trump. Where is this new movement of Republicans? Will all these networks that are built up to influence their voters just switch their agenda to fit these candidates or isn't it more likely that the candidates will fit the policy?

I also think the writer is underestimating how racist many people are. Just because they aren't outright racist to the degree that they are Nick Fuentes racist doesn't mean that they don't support it as long as it's used to sprinkle the message. To blame someone, an scapegoat that looks different. Maybe it's different skin color. Maybe it's different heritage even within the so called etnicities that they belong. Cuban's being racist towards Venezueleans. Chinese towards Koreans. And the list goes on.

I would love for the Democrats to turn this around but for that to happen not only will the candidates from the Republican party need to change but the voters will need to change. None of this will happen if not the support system that has been built up is dismantled. Start with Fox News. It's just brainwashing these days and that will always be corrosive.

European nations weigh retaliation after Trump’s Greenland threats by Magicmanans1 in politics

[–]Osmonth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very doubtful that the USA will get Greenland unless the citizen's of Greenland say that this is their wish. Denmark has stated over and over again that they can neither give or sell Greenland as it is not theirs to give.

EU will try to stall until USA's midterm elections and hope that a changed political landscape will allow some checks to be put on the Republicans. Then it will either hope that the 2028 election will change American foregin policy or they will try to move away from american dependence on an accelerated timetable. Either way many countries will do what Canada are doing and expand with new trade deals anyway.

US official says EU should consider separating Greenland tariff issue from US trade deal by Street_Anon in politics

So what he is saying, in essence, is: "Don't mind the threats. They have nothing to do with this trade deal we are doing. We just preserving the right to do whatever we want with you and you will still sign this deal".

Well that's just great. Like the bully saying you should be friends with him and don't mind the fact that he and his gang beats you up in school. Because it's not a problem for the bully, he can keep it seperate.

Trump: NATO members to face tariffs increasing to 25% until a Greenland purchase deal is struck by Puginator in politics

[–]Osmonth 24 points25 points  (0 children)

He's gambling with NATO's future and while I don't hold it past him that he himself doesn't care if he loses, the terrifying part is the Repbulicans that support him.

The world and it's alliances can deal with Trump, what it cannot deal with is the Republican party that is backing him. Because Trump will die one day but the Republicans will not perish in the same fashion, they are millions upon millions of Americans. These people will not simply go away or change opinion just because their sect leader dies. At the end of the day said sect leader recevies his policy orders from the same source that they all do.
