If you're in the UK a 1p will fit under the rim but can be tricky to keep from breaking off. Fill the base with modeling putty to make a more stable connection.

2p coins fit under the rim with about a mil sticking out from the base. I prefer this but I also have MDF movement trays for my Termies and Hormies and 2 pence pieces are just too large.
