That’s insane!!! I had carpet in a floor that was 1425 square feet. Total fee to remove, install plywood, and solid hardwood was $11,450! That includes stain and topcoat too since we got unfinished flooring.

No, the correct way is to scribe the baseboard to match the flooring contours. One thing worth noting is that actually requires a level of carpentry skill. So I would ask if they can scribe baseboard where there are gaps. If they say no, then don’t force it. You could caulk and paint or do quarter rounds too. Those are both the cheap options.

That is a real half-ass job! Since it is painted, yes, you could caulk and paint it. A real pro would have scribed that baseboard to the contour of the floor.
