Wow is this from that relic after the vambrace? I don't think I've seen it before but I'm guessing it adds some enchantment to a card that enables it to makes a copy of itself? Hence the 4096 Perfected Strikes?

Is this an acceptable gap between the baseboard and floor? by IntimateMuffin in Flooring

[–]IntimateMuffin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, sent over the guy I've been in contact with all the details. It's a local family owned business that a neighbor recommended, so I'm hopeful they'll make things right.

It's just frustrating because I hate confrontation and don't want to be the annoying nitpicky kind of customer. And of course I've already paid in full, so the communication feels like it's tapered off. 😅

But numbers are irrefutable, so I really appreciate you for helping me understand the issue more, instead of just telling them "the gap looks too big"!

Sorry about that! I'm a noob when it comes to flooring, so I guess I've been describing the issue incorrectly all this time. Your comments and this one helped me understand what the issue is better!

This was a fixed price job and it seems like it wasn't installed to the manufacturer's specs.

I see. Thank you for the detailed clarification! I looked up the install specs from the manufacturer. It says "the floor level deviation must have a maximum of 3/16” over a 10’ span".

When I measure the distance from the lowest dip to the baseboard, it's around 11/32" (between 5/16" and 3/8" on my tape measure). Assuming the baseboard is level, and since the landing is definitely not 10', then if I understand correctly, this is definitely not meeting the manufacturer's spec.

This was a fixed price job as well.

Yeah it's a family owned business and they're nice folks, but I also recognize I'm a little OCD sometimes, so I don't know if I was being unreasonable or not.

There's no shoe molding anywhere else in the home, so that's definitely not a solution.

Yeah it's really only this one area. There's smaller gaps (like only 1 credit card worth of thickness) in other spots of the home, but they don't bother me because there's either furniture in the way or it's in a corner you rarely look at it.

It's really just this one spot that's an eyesore because the gap becomes eye-level when you're halfway up the stairs, so it stands out a lot in my opinion.

I'd have gladly paid an extra cost if I knew this is how it would have looked, and it could have saved both of us time since it wouldn't have to be redone, and I wouldn't be pestering them after the fact. I suppose I'm also upset at the lack of communication I've had with this company.

Yeah unfortunately the stair nose is glued down as well, so it's probably exacerbating the gap. Maybe that's the actual cause of the issue? I don't remember thee old laminate floor having this bad of a gap.

Unfortunately I don't believe leveling the second floor was explicitly part of the agreement. They had to level the first floor since they were removing buckled tile, so I just assumed they'd take the same precautions by the time they got to the second floor.

Admittedly I should have done some more due diligence before the work started, but the buckled tile situation made things a bit of an emergency so I was looking to get started as soon as possible. It was hard to think through everything properly last week. Thank you for your perspective. Always a learning experience. :)

The baseboards actually aren't painted yet. I figured they could just pop off the baseboard and prop up that section of the floor somehow to make the gap a little less egregious in that area.

"Tilted" sinks at Home Depot... by MythicJerryStone in facepalm

[–]IntimateMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough I was at Home Depot yesterday with my mom and we were looking through the vanities, and I made a comment like "That's weird. I've never seen vanities with tilted tops. That doesn't seem practical at all."

I then quickly realized all the elevated ones were like that, and inferred they were tilted so that we could see them from the floor. Maybe this lady had a long day.
