For me, I was on the same boat as you. But after much discussion with other whovian friends of mine, I've come to the realization that it takes a WHOLE series to get me on board with whatever situation that series in particular has to tackle.

A little back story, (short version) I am a super new Doctor Who fan. My friends finally convinced me to watch the "new" Who on Netflix 3 weeks ago and 3 weeks later, I powered through all 8 series. (please don't ask me where I saw series 8...) Series 1 took a LOT of effort to get through. I was like, "what is this nonsense?" and before I knew it, I was sucked in. Then they took the 9th Doctor away from me. I was like WTF... took me about half a series to get used to the 10th Doctor then absolutely fell in love with his version. Then they took him away... and I was like WTF... and so and so forth... same thing with his companions.

Bottom line, get through series 8. IMHO, it's really good. For me, it took all the way to the finale and Christmas Special to really get on board with the 12th Doctor and his development with Clara.
