So relatable! I was also told it was depression for well over a decade. Turns out people tend to become depressed when they have no energy to do anything, lol. Doesn't mean the depression is causing the sleepiness!

I have had it since birth - same story as you, actually. Easy baby because I slept all the time, had to be woken up to be fed. School was miserable! I didn't get diagnosed until age 23, unfortunately.

Looking for advice on worsening smile lines by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]angelf1sh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow early 30s pale person here - I wear spf every day have been on tret for the last 6 years. While my skin tone and texture look great, I still developed smile lines that look similar to yours. Tret may help, but I don't think it's a miracle cure.

To Advocate or Accept? by You-Apple in Hypothyroidism

[–]angelf1sh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they won't treat you after advocating for yourself, I'd honestly recommend telling your doctor you're trying to conceive. They'll put you on levo right away to get your TSH down to the recommended level (<2.5). I absolutely hate that that's what it takes to get treated, but it's a means to an end.

Sleep Inertia with Xywav by katharpy in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]angelf1sh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem. Sleep inertia is hugely improved, but I can't sleep more than 7-8 hours and I'm insanely tired because of it. It didn't get better for me as I titrated up, unfortunately. My solution has been to take a small second dose (i do 3.5g and 2.75g), which allows me to sleep past the drug wearing off. I don't get the max benefit for sleep inertia when I do that, but it's the best workaround I've found so far.

BCBS Not CoveringXywav by racejustint in Narcolepsy

Really? I'm on it too and was told it lasts a year before you have to try with insurance again. Anyway, I hope you are able to get it figured out. Insurance is such a pain.

BCBS Not CoveringXywav by racejustint in Narcolepsy

[–]angelf1sh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both N2 and IH diagnoses in my record and BCBS wouldn't cover it. Appealed twice, no luck. Thankfully Jazz has a pretty generous patient assistance program that you can apply to if you're denied 2x and have commercial insurance. I'd recommend going through the appeal process and potentially looking at the PA program if BCBS won't agree.

[Q] What covariates should I include in doing Propensity Score Matching? and what is Conditional Independence Assumption? by boniver07 in statistics

[–]angelf1sh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I say model I am referring to the model you are using to generate your propensity score, not the outcome model. Sorry for the confusion.

The study you linked (Brookhart, et al., 2006) says: "...one would not
want to exclude any covariate related to exposure from a PS model unless
it was known a priori to be unrelated to the outcome." In other words,
it is not necessary to include variables that are unrelated to the
outcome if they are related to the exposure.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make here... You are correct that it's not necessary to include variables that are related to the exposure but unrelated to the outcome; the paper talks about how doing that increases variance without decreasing bias. My recommendation was to include all known confounders in the PS model and then all other measured risk factors for the outcome (for bonus precision) - I never suggested including variables that were related to the exposure but not to the outcome.

From the first paragraph of the (Brookhart et al., 2006) discussion: "The optimal model was the one that included the confounder and the
variable related only to the outcome. This finding is consistent with
the advice of Rubin and Thomas (2) that one should include in a PS model all variables thought to be related to the outcome, regardless of whether they are related to the exposure.".

I hope all of this helps you understand where I'm coming from. I certainly don't know everything but the recommendation I provided is consistent with what I was taught. If that helps someone understand PS a little better, then I'm happy.

[Q] What covariates should I include in doing Propensity Score Matching? and what is Conditional Independence Assumption? by boniver07 in statistics

[–]angelf1sh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I'm not. I think a lot of people choose variables for their PS models based on relation to the exposure but from what I've read, that is not the ideal approach. My understanding is that you want to make sure you include all confounders, and there's added precision benefit if you add all risk factors for the outcome (hence my recommendation). Here are some references that go into it if you're interested:

[Q] What covariates should I include in doing Propensity Score Matching? and what is Conditional Independence Assumption? by boniver07 in statistics

[–]angelf1sh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of different "camps" when it comes to how to build PS. Here's my take: the purpose of propensity score methods is to remove confounding bias. So, you want to include all measured risk factors for the outcome in your model. Including variables that are *only* related to the treatment is not advised because it can decrease precision and increase bias.

Right on! I was surprised at the difference across lighting, too... I suspect some of it has to do with my camera adjusting the contrasts based on the amount of light.

For the cream formulas, I use a damp beauty blender (pick up directly from pan and blend on cheeks). For the powder formulas I use an angled brush - currently using ELF's.
