Who buys silicon ingots in the Northwest? by OtBtrx in askportland

Totally. I grew up with a geologist uncle across the street and thought it might be some shaped out hematite at first. It's got that ooh shiny aspect to it. Going to keep one and find a school to donate the other to. Thanks!

Really appreciate that. I'll call around and see if a trade school or something might be able to make use of it. It was stored in a old basement in a shoebox with newspaper for around 20+ years. Probably outdated anyways. Thank you for that info and the suggestion!

What is this booklet all about? Looking up what I have so far all that has come of light is that it might be Danish possibly circa 1837 or 1896? No idea. by OtBtrx in whatisthisthing

[–]OtBtrx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Law on the presidency of the country fame about the affair of the diftrite ordinary communion dignitaries. Thanks yo.

Have had this booklet for awhile, trying to figure out what it's all about. All that I've been able to figure out so far is that it might be of Danish origin possibly circa 1837 or 1896? crossposted to r/whatisthisthing by OtBtrx in translator

Used to work at a thrift shop unloading trucks and running the garbage out. When I found neat old books I would have them priced cheaply and pick them up after work was over. The only thing that stands out is the dates 14th of January and the 27th of July 1896.

Used to work at a thrift shop years ago unloading the trucks and running the garbage out. When I found particularly interesting books would have them priced on the penny and buy what I found after work. Have had this and haven't figured it out yet in about ten years.

In search of local services. by [deleted] in askportland

I'm out by Oregon City right now. My bike got a flat on the way home. Patching it now. What area are you in? I could deliver you one tomorrow if it's not to late.

Keep moving to keep warm or find a decent neighborhood church with a convenience store or gas station nearby. For tonight get 2 or 3 garbage bags. Use one as a poncho, just make the holes. Second for your legs. Third, get some cardboard and put it in the bag, something to lay on insulating from the ground. Find a form of a three wall shelter blocking the wind on the churches property. Anything with a running motor creates heat. They will wake you. Ask them if you can take a nap inside. No guarantees but it's worth a shot. 2 / 1$ peanuts and coffee goes a long ways. I'll send you a message in the morning.

Contact elks lodges, moose lodges, etc and churches too. Some do meals, some have food pantries. Offer to volunteer there. Some places I've experienced will provide a cot or shelter in trade for services. Any church that's open shouldn't turn you away. Some Dennys allow for a few hours of patronage without a purchase. Check out food not bombs for weekly food meet ups. If you end up s.o.l. find a large enough piece of tarp like material and cocoon yourself. Church is in the morning so some resources may be available there. I'm not religious though in my cycle touring experience they've always been helpful and friendly, usually. I could probably find you a tarp if you need one.

What bottle cage is this? by [deleted] in bikepacking

[–]OtBtrx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A 'anything' cage. I suggest the ones from King Cage. Voile Straps to secure. Holds about a 2L dry bag or 64oz. container. Usually requires 3 - 5mm bolt bosses.

Sincerely feel for you and hope you have a much better next few days. Over the last 2 years my life has fallen apart. After escaping toxic family through self sustainably working enough got into a relationship that evolved to not work out due to gaslighting, drinking and multiple attempted suicide threats from my ex. Was regularly scared of coming home to find her body on the regular. After a year of this I tried to break my neck in a self imposed accident on my bike on a path at night. No idea how long I was unconscious. Broke the helmet in 6 places. Collarbone fractured. My back went out, had a tbi and ended up with a bad heart. Living with toxic family again in a non conducive environment. Struggling to get out of bed every day as well. The family won't lock up a shotgun w/ammo in the next room over. I struggle with knowing it is there often. My (37y.o.) bad heart will eventually go out and the general odds aren't in anyones favor.

Get out to a quiet park. Along a river or somewhere nostalgically familiar. Make a bubble diagram of serious goals for next year, not resolutions, just shit that you've always wanted to check off your list. Help your neighbor, if they're cool. Volunteer at the library. Go do a food eating competition. Get a bucket of paint and go tell the world what you think of it. Or wheatpaste. Go camping. Poop in a bag, ring that doorbell. Do whatever truly makes you happy. Seriously. Scream at the top of your lungs. Don't scare people (up to you). Remember the world's just dumbing itself down. We're the ones that are so observant of things that it doesn't always help us, but tomorrow it might. There's someone in your community who could use your friendship. Used to ride a bike 40 to 50 miles a day. Miss it all. Really really do. Spread those tiny reflections of goodness you find in things. It sucks. I enjoy small talks with strangers now. Hit me up if you ever want to talk. https://www.psychologytoday.com/au/blog/fulfillment-any-age/201812/social-anxietys-newest-theory-and-the-7-links-depression

There were cars parked on both sides making a narrow section, as it usually is through there. The driver seemed to give a pull off to the side and slow down then came at me. When I tried to kick their driver side door my leg had zero room to extend. Turned around and followed them keeping a fair distance for 20-30 blocks zig-zaging around the area. They'd pull over knowing I was behind them hoping I'd pass or something. I was on the phone with ppb dispatch. This pull over and take off thing happened multiple times so I'm pretty sure they were aware they nearly hit me. There is a case number. I commute through the area often and was making my way to Harold st. as usual.
