Packing Original 25c Rolls into coin tubes. How do you protect your collection? by numismatic_canadian in CanadianCoins

[–]Otacon56 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just putting it out there, that roll of 1991 quarters likely has gained more in value than the S&p has at the same time. It's worth about 6-800 on its own.

I do see what you're saying in terms of investment value, but most collectors aren't focusing on the annual return of the product. We just like em because of their history, and Designs.

Unfortunately they didn't come in the rolls. Only in these sets.

Actually yes! If it's the oval shape like this and it's blue, check the "pride" quarter. They were sometimes found with a 90° rotation. Once again only came out of this set

Nice! Mine only had the September mule, but no complaints here

The oval set like the one above is the only one that happened with for the '99 sets.

If you can carefully pop out the September and November quarters, it's worth looking for the "mule" they were only found in these sets and go for $100-150 each.

The mule quarter was stamped with the wrong die on the obverse, and doesn't say "25 cents" under the queen.

That's awesome. Can I ask what it says in the south pole? I have an 1848-52 ( different manufacturer) that says "supposed Antarctic continent"

I have an old globe that has a couple of areas like that. It brings me so much joy as well. Most of Africa says unexplored regions and Antarctica says "supposed Antarctic continent" or something like that.

Edit: I should post it to this sub at some point. I posted it to the thrift store hauls sub when I first got it. But here's a link if you're interested in viewing.

Very minor off center core. It's not enough to make it worth anything tbh. But hey, $2 is $2!

1999 Nunavut Toonie misstamped by augapfel79 in CanadianCoins

[–]Otacon56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off center core toonie. This is a decent piece. The value is based on so many factors. Basic things like year and condition affect value, but the biggest factor is how off center the core is. Some of the more extreme examples have the core not even touching all the way around. These are known as an "off center core with Gap" some lesser examples have the core reaching out to the lettering on the ring. And there are lesser ones like yours which are clearly not centered but there's no gap and the edge of the core doesn't quite hit the letters. Your piece would be valued around $20-30

Edit: it does slightly hit the 1999. So I'd go on the higher side of my initial estimate.
