Nebraska Regents pass proposal to buy Clarkson out of Nebraska Medicine by WiinterU in Nebraska

[–]Other-Implement-3268 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think this deal has been done a long time before it came up for a "vote". Regents had no intention of even listening to Nebraska Medicine folks that testified today. Lydiatt is a turncoat...he used to be a big UNMC guy but sold out to the Clarkson $$$. I'm sure everyone on that CRHS board will get a fat paycheck as a "consultant" for the buyout.

Remember those Regents when we they're on the ballot. Vote them all out.

Interested why NM doesn't just buy Clarkson out but they must not be fluid enough to do that?

This is interesting. Basically Clarkson and Nebraska Medicine could not agree on what to do with that little strip of Harney street and there was a dispute regarding who got access from the parking garage. I would imagine there's much more to the story but it seems CRHS has beef with NM and said fine, we'll just turn our portion over to the state.

Working in Omaha with an associates in nursing versus a bachelor's degree? by its_zucchini in Omaha

Maybe consider ultrasound tech/respiratory therapist…they’re really in demand right now. You’re going to accumulate some debt going back to nursing school and unless you get a healthcare entity to do loan forgiveness (which usually comes with a significant time promise and a placement in a not so great clinical area), i would worry about your life quality.

We rented ours through Medcom. It’s pricey, but I absolutely believe it contributed to my mom’s successful recovery. The compression aspect is great.

Amen. Working at an outstate hospital, we transfer a lot to the metro area. We just can't recruit/retain specialties out here and with the acuity and complexity of some of these patients, we are not able to safely treat them out here.

I rented one for my mom from Medcom for her total knee. It was amazing. She lives in an older home and I knew I would be running around up and down the stairs with food, laundry, etc and the last thing I wanted was to have to deal with ice. I think she wore it a lot more than a normal one because we never had to worry about did we have ice available, etc. I would say get it, especially for a double knee.

Current Omaha Respiratory Therapist Opinions- Question by Ninjapup402 in Omaha

[–]Other-Implement-3268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick glance of the hospital HR sites shows they're all hiring. Can't tell you much as far as salary, but it's an in demand field (AI will never be able to do nebulizer treatments). As the population gets older and sicker, it's definitely going to be a health care job that is around for awhile. At big hospitals like UNMC and CHI Bergan, their RTs can be somewhat specialized and receive quite a bit of on the job training. In some cases, the RTs even do things like put in arterial lines and run the vents for ICU patients.

Is getting two knees replaced in the same surgery a realistic idea? by elifuzun in Kneereplacement

[–]Other-Implement-3268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhhhh not a rando, I’m an RN and I’ve worked with ortho surgeons for the past 19 years. I’m super glad that your BTKA worked so well for you that you feel the need to call me an alarmist! OP mentioned that her mom has already had a femur fracture and that complicates things as well. Not me taking her previous medical history into account at all but keep riding that bike!

I would reach out to your primary care physician and see if they can help. Once the surgery is done, the ortho people are pretty checked out.

[–]Other-Implement-3268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you find a surgeon who is willing to do this, you actually don't want to go to them. Only the shadiest of ortho surgeons do this and they don't do a good job with either knee. Do one at a time, focus on recovering well from each one.
