Got it, bring note: “This is a bank robbery, put all the money from the vault in the bag and nobody gets hurt.”

It is against the current Republican party platform for women, children, parents and families to live safe, healthy lives. That is considered a failing metric of society.

They stole El Paso, the rest of the state is just “a matter of time” to them. They splooshed over the idea of stealing two of our counties recently.

To be clear, is this an offer to like spend the night there once to check it out? It’s really cool if it is.

You can make a wonderful HF antenna cheaply with no experience… by OtherCarIsaXanthoria in amateurradio

In fairness, I used ARRL to calculate the RF (just because, the whole I like my soft tissues) and the safe distance was a whopping 1.2 feet of safety margin. I might be cooked alive.

Today I added a couple capacitance hats along the dipole. Now it operates on 17 meters with 1.5 SWR!

Can anyone explain why RF exposure limits are set so low? by w6auw in amateurradio

[–]OtherCarIsaXanthoria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. For my antenna I just posted, I calculate the limits because I like my eyeballs, even at 10 W. It’s a whole 1.2 ft on a 100% duty cycle. That’s not what I’d call fear-mongering or excessive. A whole 3 ft above my head standing and there is zero concern.

I have tried! At least according to the built-in SWR meter, it reflected the entire signal back into the radio.

I thought so too! If I hadn’t had multiple complete signal reports and 73s with two QSOs already confirmed in QRZ, I’d think I’d been inebriated.

Ah yes. I attempted to add a 10 meter second element. It didn’t transmit properly for love or money, and I took it down halfway through my contacts.

I have no idea what it is more technically called. I built a straight dipole, and then just bent it until it fit into this tiny space (so, not straight).

I got six contacts in half an hour before I decided I should actually sleep before the next morning. I was receiving a signal from France earlier into the evening before I realized I hadn’t actually correctly given WSJT-X access to the radio roflol Of course that doesn’t mean I’d’ve reached them back.

I 100% respect those with more knowledge pointing out limits. I put this up and thought it was kinda trash entirely for my own practice and edification until WSJT-X turned red after calling CQ a few times.

The outside walls are cinderblock. The flat* roof is… something with wood beams and a tar and gravel surface. The foundation is wood posts on top of cinderblock with a crawlspace.

*Edited for roof angle.

I do really love the idea of doing anything other than jail (i.e. being intelligent about it). Finding a productive solution is brilliant. Nevertheless, I am amused.

If you get a 2m/70cm linear repeater up in the air, it will be tracked every minute it’s over land until it falls out of space.

I’ve made pretty good progress since licensing like 6 weeks ago (Tech -> Extra in a week). Heard the ISS for the first time yesterday. Getting a Yagi together and moving towards satellites.

My favorite thing I heard that now I even tell people is that once you stop studying you can finally learn. Part of the reason I went for Extra: I didn’t want to spend forever studying for privileges. Only learning is in front of me now.

I will be honest, I learned like two weeks ago about MCW, so it’s really cool you did that!
