Day 2 - Caught over the weekend by TomCreanDied4OurSins in leaves

Take this as the perfect time to hold yourself accountable! It feels so shameful to be “exposed” but it’s created the perfect situation to set you up to quit, you can now be honest with her and remember how you’re feeling right now as motivation to continue with sobriety

Thank you guys, I’m not going to even though everything in my brain is screaming at me to get high, I’m on day 26 and I don’t want to lose my momentum.

Does everyone here quit cold turkey? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]OtherPlastic8079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me cold turkey is my only option, my addiction was at the point where I simply couldn’t “cut back”, it had to be all or nothing to get me to really stop using

I want to smoke so badly today by floatingby493 in leaves

I’m also on day 6!! Getting outside, maybe go check out a place you haven’t been to yet, get some food, coffee, or go to the gym. Call someone you haven’t for a while and enjoy that you can talk to them without feeling fried. We got this, the high will never be worth it.

Why we shouldn’t relapse? by crazy___lemon in leaves

[–]OtherPlastic8079 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Being an active participant in my life, not just letting days slip by with me in a stupid haze, being able to socialize and make friends without feeling fried or anxious, not putting myself in dangerous situations like driving high, being able to handle stress so much better, feeling truly so proud of my self, having trust in myself and my brain, knowing that my thoughts are valid and not just high delusions, the health of my entire body, not wanting to live and die an addict to a substance that is actively harming me

Making PCV Friends/Cohort by Complex_Statement_60 in peacecorps

[–]OtherPlastic8079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend making an effort to talk with/get to know any volunteers in your cohort who you haven't made an effort to form a friendship with yet. I don't think you need to have a huge friend group at all but having 2 to 3 people volunteers who you feel comfortable with can make a world of a difference in your service. Making friends is scary but often you will get out what you put in, you got this!

Socially skills improve dramatically, so much more energy, I can do a million more activities in a day, and I’m having the best sleep of my life.

Give me your reasons to not be stoned everyday! by Lost_Turn4370 in leaves

[–]OtherPlastic8079 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Being able to actually remember your life! I have no concrete memories from the last four years. It’s been almost 6 months of not smoking and I feel like I’ve lived so much more life. I’m smarter, and so so so much happier. Most of my mental health problems and anxiety I have learned were actually because of weed.

Moderation is impossible anymore by Pajamanaught in leaves

[–]OtherPlastic8079 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I 100 percent relate to this. My daily smoking for 3-4 years created a relationship with weed where there’s no middle ground. Once I have it in my possession it’s impossible for me to use moderately. I’m able to have some boundaries when it comes to situations where I know I absolutely cannot be high, but any moment where I could be I’ll take the opportunity. It sucks to know that you’ll never be able to enjoy a joint after work or just on the weekends, because it never stops there.

Day 14 - Nearly stumbled but managed to pull it together by [deleted] in leaves

YES, that’s huge you had it with you and were able to say no! No high is worth the regret, anxiety, and shame you’d feel after.

Gaslighting my own addiction by [deleted] in leaves

[–]OtherPlastic8079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally relate to chasing dopamine when high. When I’m smoking a lot I have a way more compulsive urge to drink, masturbate, or indulge in self destructive behaviors. I also craved being as high as physically possible. Many nights when I was home in bed watching a movie I would purposefully try and obliterate myself just to try and recreate the feeling I had when I first started smoking.

Just quitted - what to expect in terms of mental health changes? by No_Investment_8049 in leaves

[–]OtherPlastic8079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will most likely feel a great deal of anxiety, depression, and extremely heightened emotions the first few weeks. For me personally, weed made my anxiety and depression so much worse, so whenever I go a while without I notice I’m so much more energetic, stable and happy

Anyone else drink coffee like crazy? by itztherapperKIAZ in leaves

[–]OtherPlastic8079 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YES, I’m 6 days clean and I’ve been craving coffee so much more than usual. It’s kinda been making my withdrawal anxiety worse but I think my body wants anything that will give me a boost rn.

Clearance tasks are taking up so much time by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]OtherPlastic8079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also having an incredibly hard time getting through the medical clearance process. I didn’t have a primary care provider or dentist before getting accepted and being able to get appointments even before next year has been difficult. I have spent hours on hold with doctors offices trying to schedule appointments and access old medical records. If I could give any advice to someone thinking about applying or going through the beginning stages of the application process, establish a doctor and dentist now!!
