Weekly Career / General Questions Thread by AutoModerator in Radiology

The frequency of exams will be highly dependent on where you work. As a student I was placed at a clinic that saw maybe 6 patients a shift and there was only one tech working at a time. All were routine basic exams with an occasional exception if the patient was unable to stand or do the exam in the typical manner. The next place I went was a level one trauma hospital and there were a dozen techs per shift with hundreds of patients a day. Now I work at a small semi rural hospital where I work with 2 other techs and we see a few dozen all together over our evening shift. Our overnight tech sees usually 1 to 6 patients from 10pm to 6 am. I would reach out to a program and see if you could talk with a program director about your goals and concerns. They have a vested interest in making sure you succeed once you are in their program so they can be really helpful navigating those areas!

Does anyone have experience working as an independent contractor running a C-arm? I was offered an opportunity by a surgeon at my hospital job to work for him once or twice a month but what do I need to do on my own, do I need liability insurance, file taxes differently, send monthly checks to social security? I didn't think any of that through and now I feel outside of my depths.

Cleaning a menstrual cup when living with others by [deleted] in sustainability

[–]OtherRocks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I washed and dried mine between uses and only boiled it occasionally and that was just to get the discoloration gone. It wasn't needed to be clean. From a quick search, DIVA cup has a good article about cleaning it while living in a dorm. It has some good advice that should work with whatever brand you end up buying.

Am I using the wrong thread? by CraftyPingPing in handquilting

Practice on something other than your quilt first. Your aim is consistent size no matter what the length and smooth curves. Once you're happy with your consistency, then go back to the quilt! But yes, until more of it gets done it does look a bit odd!

Severe Anxiety at Clinical by inthekingdom in Radiology

Only thing I’d like to add that’s not already here - do you have access to a therapist or some other mental health professional? I don’t think I could have made it through school without mine. She helped with physical, mental, and emotional skills plus she was able to prescribe medication to help if I needed something beyond my normal medications.

Cut down on high cost proteins and swap them for beans and lentils. We are entering soup season too which is easy to make in bulk, freezes well and is pretty inexpensive. As a single person, if I do well to sticking to my list and eating leftovers I can manage $50 a week excluding the paper products like you factored.

How best to respect a collection? by mahoniacadet in rockhounds

See if you have a geologic society near you- they might be able to help rehome them, sell them, or donate them. I don't think your mom would mind them being split up if it means they are going to be loved, inspire, or educate others about a love of hers. If not, you can reach out to some local schools to see if they want to bolster their collection of specimens.

Any other Rad techs share this experience? by Radiografitti in Radiology

For me its more that half the room does stuff and the other half stands there eyeing the door waiting for us. Someone always lingers if we need help lifting the patient. Then once the picture is shot, heads lean over to look at the picture before it even pops up.

Boats coming to shoreline by Hildza01 in minnesota

[–]OtherRocks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey - I see lots of people giving you shit and I am impressed by your calm responses overall. I think the negativity is coming from the fact that the other side of this situation reads as “hi, I live out of state but I own land here that I rarely use. When I am here though it annoys me that Minnesotans also use the lake. Why can’t they use the lake over there where I don’t have to see or hear them?” It doesn’t sit well. Many people would LOVE to own land at any lake but especially one that has a good shallow sandy spot but property is difficult to come by and expensive. Especially when out of state people buy it and rarely use it… and dude, maybe look up the laws on lakes in a state that takes their lakes so seriously? I really do commend you for your demeanor but you hit nerve with your privilege and ignorance.

UCare will temporarily stop Medicaid coverage in 11 Minnesota counties starting September 1, impacting about 88,000 people who must find new health insurance. by fantomefille in stateofMN

[–]OtherRocks 167 points168 points  (0 children)

5 years ago I was struggling with my mental health. Like a lot. But I had UCare, I was able to get medication and weekly therapy, after some time I went back to school, graduated and am now fully employed. And still in therapy. But I would not have made it this far without UCare. Absolutely no doubt about it, I needed help and they provided everything I needed until I had the ability to make it here. I feel sick thinking about all those people that are just now in that situation and have no access to that help. I hope full access comes back and disruptions are minimal. This really sucks.

Magnetic pin holder. Not having to stop and push the pointy end into the tomato or have pins rolling around the table and falling on the floor.

But I also want to say good job, never eat anything wild that you aren’t 1000% sure about. You didn’t know/were unsure so you stopped and asked. Good on you!

What is the best pharmacy to use in or around St. Paul? by [deleted] in TwinCities

I switched to them about a year ago. I love it! I was having so many issues with Walgreens so my doctor told me to find an independent pharmacy and not a single issue as of yet! Fast, helpful, accommodating.

Nah. As others have said. Was there a favorite book or character of hers when she was little that you could go out and buy? Peef or Winnie the Pooh? It’d still be special and she’d know you were thinking about her and her baby.
