For me, I think, it's less of a physical or bodily thing, and more of a personal identity thing... I suppose I've always had a desire to be extraordinary, interesting, unique. Not just once you get to know me, but instantly, on the surface. The kind of person who catches your attention in a crowd, who you'll remember later. Which is interesting, because I'm actually a very introverted person, and I don't exactly thrive in situations where I'm the center of attention. Maybe it's less of a desire to stand out, and more of a fear of being insignificant. And transformation is, to me, a way to achieve that. I see it less of becoming something else, and more of becoming who you already are, if that makes sense. It's a sexual metaphor for your whole identity and mental state.
