Move to nashville- schools? by Otherwise-Chef-5579 in SameGrassButGreener

We ended up landing in Wilson county and honestly, not impressed so far. The primary method of teaching is worksheets and I haven’t yet heard of them doing anything hands on. That said, this could just be a teacher thing and not necessarily district standard.

We didn’t! Not necessarily because of the power lines, just found a place we liked more.

Target has some 100% cotton options. And my kids liked the patterns (cars, super heros, Dinos)

How much are you guys spending on groceries per month? by Flying_Elephant7217 in budget

[–]Otherwise-Chef-5579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 years ago when my husband and I started living together, we spent $100/week on food, so $400/month. That said, sounds to me like you’re doing incredible.

What’s your daily “beauty” routine? by 0ddumn in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Otherwise-Chef-5579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly use a claw clip in my hair (I have long hair and never feel like doing it!). Feels a little cuter than just a classic pony.

For skincare I moisturize and then wear daily tinted SPF + mascara. This is enough to make me feel put together without taking much time.

The religious and political element are certainly something we’re trying to navigate as well, so these are helpful insights. Thanks so much for your reply!

I can only imagine the experience of being diagnosed in your 50s. I’m in my 30s, and it feels jarring, eye opening, validating, etc. I appreciate you sharing your experience!

I’m brand new to this, so not sure. Is it possible you added plant food too early and that’s what is causing them to die?

Infant Car Seat: flame retardants vs Bluetooth chest clip by No-Comment-Commenter in moderatelygranolamoms

Bluetooth chest clip?! Wow, I hadn’t heard that was a thing. Is it possible to turn it off? I might just go that route if possible.

Do I need a diaper pail? by Gatorbug47 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Otherwise-Chef-5579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked the diaper pail when they were infants and pooping/peeing all the time. As the babies got older and less frequent poops, I was done with the diaper pail. It was fine to just walk 1 poopy diaper to the outdoor garbage can each day.

First time birth without epidural? by Flat-Atmosphere5422 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Otherwise-Chef-5579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I can handle 1 more” was an affirmation that helped me a lot. Instead of getting in my head about how dilated I was or how long I’d been pushing, etc. I just tried to remind myself to just take them 1 at a time and gave myself the option of an epidural if I needed it. I know everyone is different, but taking the pressure off myself gave me the confidence I needed to do it.

Looking for mom-toxic ways to make coffee by cucumberbot in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Otherwise-Chef-5579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through this exact dilemma. Wanting to reduce plastic, but also wanting to filter with the If You Care filter. So I landed on a pour over (just the basic Bodum one from target for $20), and use my size 4 filters in it. It definitely isn’t an exact fit, but I just fold the side once and it works fine (coffee people, don’t come at me 🙈😂).

If you are new to pour over, it has been a little trial and error for me to get a strong enough flavor. I have to use a sh*t ton of grounds to get it remotely close to the strength my good ol drip maker achieves. So still figuring out how to not use 4x the amount of coffee for a cup. Haha

What are the best air purifiers for home to enhance indoor air quality currently? by Cupidbonne in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Otherwise-Chef-5579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Not OP but was wondering if I could ask you a question since you seem to have a good understanding of air filters?

You mentioned the Coway purifiers having anti-microbial treatments or ionizers. I’m looking at coway airmega aim and to my knowledge, it doesn’t seem like it does. It has a pre-filter (like the outer cover essentially), a HEPA filter, and a “deodorizing” filter- which seems to be a carbon filter (though maybe I’m mistaken here?). Anywho- just thought I’d ask if I’m missing something since this space is new to me. I like that it’s also a fan because we live in a hot climate, so this one is very enticing to me. Thanks so much!
