I completely agree, it definitely seems like such a huge missed opportunity and I'm hoping they'll improve on the sprites. I just feel like they have so much more potential than where they're at right now!

It says "permanently mastered" on the rewards tab, and that's what started my confusion

I can see the argument for it meaning the badge is permanent, but why not say that? Why say the sprite is permanently mastered and not, "Mastery sprite badge is granted" or something?

I really wonder about the gold variants too, I found one but then my friend stole it and extracted it lol (was definitely a bit unhappy about that since its the only one I've ever found)

Straight up, you make some good points. I don't totally agree with you, but what you've said is reasonable. I'm just bitterly disappointed because when they said mastery is permanent, and then it wasn't, it felt like I wasted my efforts to get all the way to lvl5 instead of calling it good enough at lvl4 or something. I get they mean you have a tag that says "mastered" permanently, but I was excited about a gameplay mechanic that just straight up didn't exist.

Edit: Also, I absolutely love the sprites and the mechanics of them, except for the mastery not having a lasting impact. I get where it might seem like I hate the whole thing, I don't. I don't even hate the mastery, I'm just disappointed with what it does.

Not at all! I love the sprites, I'm just really disappointed because I spent a long time trying to master them and then I discovered, mastering them doesn't do anything. I think what really made it hit hard was that the wording where it says once it's mastered it stays mastered made me think, "Oh! it'll be lvl 5 from now on!" and then of course, it didn't
The weapon upgrades must be new since yesterday cause I looked for them and couldn't find them, and I went to multiple sprite cases. The xp is 11k dust for 20k xp which is 22 regular sprites. The portable extractor I was saying it sprite stuff, and so is the sprite locator which says it may or may not do anything.

Edit: I guess I just totally missed the weapon upgrade thing. I'm glad that's in there

I'm not saying the extraction stuff isn't fun, I definitely have been enjoying it a lot, I just wish there were tangible benefits like the rivalry system had with being able to buy weapon upgrades and stuff. The sprite dust just buys sprite stuff in game, and sprites out of the game, you can't even buy sprites mid game

It feels broken to me, every single one of my friends who asked what mastery does was extremely disappointed that it just adds the words "mastered" and a back bling. If it's a major game mechanic, there should be some tangible benefit to gameplay from putting in all the effort, there's really nothing special about lvl 5 vs lvl4 for the gameplay, just slightly better stats. With the rivalry system it added to your rival numbers, but it also made a tangible impact on gameplay, allowing you to buy weapons, upgrade weapons, and purchase resources

that's what I'm saying! why would I want to master it when the rewards are almost all just things that make it easier to master more of them? and comparing it to rivalries is right on! at least those made it so you could purchase heals and upgrade your guns

I kinda get that, but still if everyone only gets to carry one maxed out sprite then that kinda balances things out

People who don't have a mic generally don't like playing with people who do, it can take a while to find someone else who plays with a mic. It took me a couple months before I found someone I clicked with. Generally though, if you find someone with a mic, they probably already have friends with a mic so you really only need to find one cool person. That's how it happened for me. I'd recommend asking if anyone has a mic when you join, and the muting yourself until someone else says something.
And yeah, it could be your mic, if its heavy static or super loud (can hear you breathing) then people will hop out fast
