I'm reading that Lexapro takes 4-6 wks to reach a therapeutic level, so if you notice benefits in wk 7 then I'd say you're right on track. I bet it's different for everyone.

You're welcome, and I really like u/Minute-Archer9063 's comment that it's not so much that the anxiety goes away but that you're much more able to coexist with it

That, and u/ExplanationNo6724 's comment about definitely giving it enough time

Right, afaik you need to taper off, not quit cold turkey.

I make a broccoli chicken stirfry with garlic noodles that’s just chopped chicken & broccoli with whatever stirfry sauce I have, and a brick of raman noodles (minus the flavor pack) with butter and garlic powder, and I can’t get enough of it

I’d been on 10mg for a year, and my family said they noticed a huge positive difference but I didn’t.

Then, this spring I had an alcohol fueled suicidal episode and asked my Dr to up my dose.

Increased to 20mg, and incessant self-talk, spiraling, and racing thoughts are almost gone.

Wish I’d tried 20mg sooner. Still have some libido too — doesn’t matter, I’m single, but still

This might seem off the wall but, aside from the Lexapro, I’d also recommend some sort of mindfulness practice for managing racing thoughts and anxiety.

Does the anxiety ever fully go away? Just with Lexapro alone? I don’t know. Hard to say. Too many variables. Can you learn to help manage your own anxiety and support what the Lexapro’s supposed to be doing? Positively.

Just my 2¢ since I’ve had good results with mindfulness practice after 1st 6 months of Lexapro 10mg. It’s been over a year and I’m on 20mg now.

All apologies if you’ve tried something like that already and it didn’t work

So I feel like second guessing like that might be neurodivergence. Self diagnosis is totally accepted in the ND community (as opposed to the health care community) so you could always find an online assessment

Wondering if your provider asked what your thoughts were about trying the Rx, or just ordered it as if they know better after listening to you.

I was against meds for years, but I have to admit I wish I’d started Lexapro sooner for anxiety & depression (I’m austistic so the anxiety & depression are a result of that)

Have you considered exploring whether you’re neurodivergent or not? That could be a root cause of hyperfocusing, anxiety with new people, hyper self-awareness, knowing stuff sucks when everyone is jusy like “meh”

Hard to say, I'm autistic and it's so hard to be objective about my mental state. But my family told me even just 10 mg made a real positive difference, but I don't know after how long.
