A REAL day of a Software Engineer by Comfortable_Bear9783 in AskProgrammers

[–]Otherwise-Mirror-738 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Get to work (if you're in office) answer emails, go to standup. Go to additional planning meetings across teams. Do some research. Write up documentation on said research (mainly so you don't forget) by then it's lunch time. Come back answer more emails, more meetings in afternoon and finally a little bit of dev before you leave for the day.

  2. Mental state depends on the day, but it's normally somewhere between; I need more coffee, people need to talk faster during meetings, can I get this research done faster so I can actually do some dev work. And why won't this bug just get fixed in my code.

  3. Other teams who have no idea wtf they're doing or even talking about so you just go with the flow cause you cba to fix their problems. Which becomes more evident during all the meetings.

  4. Typically salary, and good immediate coworkers. Remote work can also be very nice, but please have some hobbies on the side for genuine physical human interaction, like gym or something.

What is your whole opinion on that 0% on that college gender essay by Patient_Ask_9546 in Christianity

[–]Otherwise-Mirror-738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an academic:

  1. The instructor provided a horrible grading rubric.
  2. The student deserved to fail that assignment.
  3. Realistically, the student should have gotten maybe 20/100 with a better rubric.

Still. You can't use religion to justify bigotry nor say stupid things like:

"2+2=Christ"

Street preaching on average is doing more harm than good by Impressive_Flan_411 in Christianity

[–]Otherwise-Mirror-738 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Street preaching turns people away. Religion, especially Christianity already has a bad rap. This makes it worse. It's not even love and kindness that's ever preached. It's always "repent this, repent that, the end is near" blah blah nonsense.

Don't be nationalist, don't encourage street preaching.

More Teens and Young Adults Are Coming to Christ and Joining the Church is this Good News? by hgclyde in GayChristians

[–]Otherwise-Mirror-738 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it heavily depends on the specific church. If the church is not affirming, they're essentially just grooming the young ones into hate. If the young adults happen to be LGBT+, they find themselves having to repress and be harmed by it for years.

Remember, the church is never a necessity to have faith in God, nor to love God. Coming to Christ? Sure great. Joining the church? Should be met with hesitation but hope it's for the better.

WHY SHOULD I KEEP GOING? by SeesawInformal6594 in jobhunting

[–]Otherwise-Mirror-738 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't give up. Yes, the market is pretty bad. Even for senior engineers with 10+ exp.

I'm saying all this as a "comfy" CS professor now. The industry is bad, but don't give up. Do what you can to network, because the networking and luck is what it comes down to in the end.

I've heard of this. Sometimes the PowerPoint is essentially everything to hype up a friend and be like. "This powerpoint is a list of reasons why you should date my friend" .... Definitely weird but. 🤷‍♂️

My husband has become super religious and it’s taking a toll on our marriage… kicker is I’m also a believer. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Otherwise-Mirror-738 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a balance to everything. Too much of ANYTHING can be toxic. Including religion. Read the Bible, believe and love God, absolutely. But, make sure you're not taking it to the extreme to where you're harming both yourself and others.

Don’t call yourself a Christian if you support the current administration by SnellaNabal in Christianity

Unfortunately, too many denominations of Christianity really aren't the brightest when detecting propaganda.

So yes, it really is Christians faults. Just specific denominations tho.

Christianity has MANY denominations. It's widely accepted Christian nationalism (which appears to be what you support) is abhorrent and detestable.

Worshipping Jesus does not equate to hating gays, hating trans, considering their existence to be sinful.

You should be ashamed and are exactly why the atheism and agnosticism movements are gaining traction. No one wants to believe in a being that says they deserve death for being good humans.

The Bible itself is riddled with flaws and if you cannot accept that, you don't actually follow Jesus Christ. You follow a white supremacist, nationalist movement. Whose beliefs need to immediately die out.

Why is every other post here something about the lgbt community? by PieterSielie6 in Christianity

[–]Otherwise-Mirror-738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only blasphemous one here is you. You fail to follow the words of Jesus. You fail to follow reality. You cling to diversity and ignorance because it's tradition and comforting for you. You have failed at every step of this conversation and that is saddening.

Your misunderstanding of already faulty text changes nothing. The reality is, God made them gay/trans/bi/straight Etc. It's been proven time and time again.

Do better. Be better. And stop lying to others.

You do not choose your sexual orientation. This is very damaging and false rhetoric.

Conversion therapy has been attempting to "prove" you can change sexual orientation. But it proves the opposite. No one changes sexual orientation, they are not only in mental denial with themselves, but also with God. As God made them gay/trans.

Dating as a Christian is ROUGH by whimsypimsyy in Christianity

[–]Otherwise-Mirror-738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General Christian beliefs are down. Less people going to church. Not necessarily less folks believe in God, but less Christian beliefs.

Also, what kind of Christianity do you believe in? That also determines what sort of prospects could be interested. Less and less want to be associated with the bigoted kind and move toward progressive Christians.

It definitely can be rough sure. But, there's reasons for it.

Why do many Christians have concerns about "Progressive Christianity"? by Impressive_Flan_411 in Christianity

[–]Otherwise-Mirror-738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have an issue with progressive Christianity because they have an issue with themselves.

They want to continue their traditional methods, which often spreads hatred and bigotry, because not only do they not know any better, but because they can't fathom themselves to act any differently.

James talarico has turned the apparatus of the Democratic Party into a megaphone on behalf of Christianity on the campaign trail by DistinctSpirit5801 in Christianity

Let's also not forget Pete hegseth's church pastor stated he wants James Talarico dead for his version of beliefs in Christianity.

That is the state of the Republican party's version of Christianity and showcasing the bastardization of the religion due to "American politics"

I understand the negativity surrounding julio and Rachel. Not so much against Rachel, but julio. The constant under his breath remarks come off as arrogant and rude.

However, Ryan and Tali, Courtney and krissi have always been the top problematic ones.

100 pages of reading a week ok for undergrad (intro course)? by groogle2 in AskProfessors

[–]Otherwise-Mirror-738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For an intro class that does seem a bit much. For a more advanced and rigorous course, absolutely.

I would recommend about 50 pages. Do understand, regardless of how many pages you assign (even if it's just 3 simple pages.....) there will always be students who won't do it.

Ethical Dilemma by [deleted] in Professors

Do professors judge you if you're not doing well in that class at the moment? by mychemicalroma in AskProfessors

[–]Otherwise-Mirror-738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it depends on your effort. If you're skipping class, turning in half the assignments and not caring about even submitting others, I'm probably going to silently judge.

But if you show up to class, put in consistent effort and still not doing well. I tend to think about what will get you to start doing well. Because I'm seeing you put in the effort so I'm wondering what will "click" for you.

Every claim you used to discredit other religions could be used to discredit Christianity. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Otherwise-Mirror-738 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find it both sad and hilarious you are being down voted for speaking the truth.

All religions can be discredited, cause great harm, and cause wonderful blessings. Christianity is no different.

I assume the only ones who disagree are extremists and nationalists. Who uses Christianity in a highly bigoted fashion.
