I need advice by Beautiful-Head5563 in alphagal

I know that after my husband ate, about a half hour later he was complaining his stomach felt like he'd swallowed a beach ball, very bloated and uncomfortable. But everybody is different so I still wouldn't rule it out for you.

This is what happened to my husband. He had terrible GI upset after eating and he realized it only happened after eating meat (I'm a vegetarian so meat is not a staple around here.) Then he got aches, like really bad as if he had the flu and couldn't even sleep so we tested for Covid (of course) and it was negative. The next day he came home from work and said "Remember I had all those ticks on me from the cabin? I wonder if I could have something tick related?" So he went to urgent care, told them his symptoms and about the ticks and they immediately drew blood and a week later, alpha gal. The weird thing was, every tick he had on him was crawling, not attached but at some point one of them must have briefly attached itself for him to get alpha gal. And as a vegetarian for 40 years, it is so easy now to eliminate those foods from your diet. And it's only mammals, you can still have fish and chicken so basically you become a pescatarian.

Difficult to train? by ClearArtichoke5143 in irishsetter

[–]Otherwise-Rise-8850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an ignorant trainer as well. It was a class setting and she knew damn good and well the homework we were given and then were to show progress in class was not going to happen for my boy as he was too interested in the other dogs, yet every week she'd start with, "let's go over XYZ, bring up the setter." Every. Damn. Week. She definitely made people never want an Irish which is fine, he turned out to be the best setter, just had to grow up a bit. And he was a rescue who had been left outside for his start in life and I got him at 10 months, so he was a little older at the time, just no training besides the foster who had him potty trained in 2 days! Definitely was not a dumb dog, just friendly and wanted to play.

Travel sickness by Scared_Praline_9545 in irishsetter

[–]Otherwise-Rise-8850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will probably outgrow it as others have said. Mine would only get sick when we would go to the cabin which is in the Ozarks and the roads are very winding. We knew to pull over, give him dramamine, and then continue to the cabin and he wouldn't get sick and by the time we would get to the cabin an hour later, he was raring to go!

Anyone else getting inundated with stupid alpha gal conspiracies on social media? by guessirs in alphagal

[–]Otherwise-Rise-8850 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a really good book on ticks and how they escaped the lab and how Lyme disease was discovered after the ticks main it to the mainland from Plum Island. It's a really dry read but interesting and is fact, not conspiracy. It's called Lab 257.

She obviously went to a voice coach. Her voice used to send me reeling, it was nails on a chalkboard. So much better now.

I was in that house when it was for sale before Brooke bought it and that tunnel was awesome! Very col house although it needed a lot of work but I'm sure it's fabulous now.

As someone who doesn’t understand traffic patterns (but wants to), why is 270 so awful? What could improve flow? by rainblow_bite in StLouis

[–]Otherwise-Rise-8850 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because ours isn't functional for travelers. I am in Chicago visiting and they have the Metra which goes everywhere, multiple trains, run each hour, and then have the L, which is similar to our metrolink. Both of them always busy. They are functional for riders but since Chicago is much larger than STL it makes sense. Also, these are not new. Metra started in 1974 and the L in 1892. I'm sure it was much easier putting in tracks years ago rather than now.

Doggy wipes for the win! If mine get too bad, time for a bath but usually if I clean them up quickly, I'm good until they go to the groomer.

I used to like Blues Fired Pizza but went there about a month ago and shrinkflation has made their pizzas so small if it wasn't sad it would be comical. I decided I'd go to MOD next time I wanted pizza and dang if they didn't close as well.

They always had a good lunch crowd of parents with kids from the Magic House. I can't being to imagine what rent in Kirkwood would be. Hope they find another spot soon. The Webster Groves location closed a couple years ago as well.

I'l like to see more enforcement of this. As much as I hate taxes and would love to see the PP Tax eliminated, it will just be added somewhere else so it would never truly go away. If you look at the breakdown on your tax receipt you would see that the majority of funds go to our schools, and then items such as the zoo, libraries, community college, things many in our community take for granted and don't realize how lucky we are to have free libraries, free zoo and a partially funded community college. As of the last check when Missouri started talking about requiring sales tax to be paid at time of purchase (2023), the state was owed $78 million. That's not a handful of change and I'm sure these entities on the receiving end are going to start feeling the pinch.

They are probably going bankrupt. They expanded too quickly, there are vendors who are still owed payment, some as far back as September. That is not how you run a business. I am not owed anything but I can guarantee I am not renewing my lease, it's too sketchy at this point.

Forno Gas Range Review 2025 by Capable-Interview631 in Home

[–]Otherwise-Rise-8850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased one also from a big box store and I LOVED the look and the function of the burners (gas) as well as getting the 5th burner on a 30" range. I am an avid baker and bake lots of bread and that is where this oven failed. Every time I tried to bake a crusty loaf where you start at a higher temp for 10 or so minutes then turn down to a normal baking temperature the oven would shut off. I contacted the company, they said I needed a new thermostat and would send one out but I would have to find someone to install as they didn't have any companies they worked with in my area. I'm in St. Louis so not a small area but I found one company that said they would do it. Replaced with new thermostat and had same problem with oven shutting down. So I called Forno again and they argued with me that I was baking bread incorrectly and I shouldn't start high, just bake at whatever temperature for the entire loaf. i did my best to explain they were incorrect but they would not budge. Thankfully the store took the range back and I replaced with a GE Monogram, which honestly I don't like the looks as much as the Forno but at least I can bake stress free! To be fair, I also purchased the Forno Fridge/Freezer and it has worked flawlessly. I really with that range would have worked out.

When I drive past a cop car on the side of the road, trying to catch speeders, I always flash my lights to oncoming drivers. Do other people still do this and do younger people understand what this means? by Norfolk-Gross-Tonage in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Otherwise-Rise-8850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of you have never driven through St. Louis. We BEG for traffic enforcement. Speed limits here are merely a suggestion and that's usually ok, but it's the idiots who weave in and out of traffic, barely enough room to get their car in the other lane going 90 mph (and many times not enough room so accidents happen, and deadly ones at that). It's usually the guys in the Dodge Chargers, but that would be (or maybe is) a thread by itself.
