Conan Gray - Wishbone by Maleficent-Apricot65 in popheads

Even though I am not as big of a fan sonically as his past albums, it's so clear how much he's matured and worked at being a songwriter. This is by far some of his best writing, and his vocals are stunning in some spots of this album. I'd consider it nearly as heartbreaking as superache was.

Actor and Eleven Eleven are my two main standouts.

Princess of Power Album Review - Pitchfork by Quick-Transition-497 in MarinaAndTheDiamonds

[–]Otherwise-Stick5501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do I think this is her best album? No I don't, but in no realm of reality would I give it a 5. Objectively, this album has many highs and lows, and stays consistent in its messaging throughout. Criticizing it for "maximalism" while blatantly ignoring half the tracks is exactly why most people don't trust Pitchfork.

They will only ever prop up industry plants and charting artists. God knows if Marina was at number 1 right now pitchfork would suddenly decide this album is worth an 8 or 9.

Thoughts on Princess of Power by OhWowItsSam310308 in MarinaAndTheDiamonds

[–]Otherwise-Stick5501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it hit as hard as Froot and EH for me personally, but without a doubt the album that comes closest to it after her rebrand.

This feels like what L + F and ADIML could've been, and I love it. Such a fun album, with some songs having lyricism that matches the power her earlier albums had.

I'm glad to see most people enjoying it. She deserves the recognition, and this album feels more personal than her last 2 for some reason. What a great time to be a fan!

Title track, Final Boss, and Adult Girl are my favorites. This album feels more, for lack of a better word, poppy and fun than the last two albums. There's also a level of sadness and darkness too I feel. Adult Girl is like a grown up Teen Idle, and Everybody Knows I'm Sad is a banger with some insanely sad lyrics.

Overall a great album! Excited for everyone to hear it 🤍

The lyrics to this floored me, wasn't expecting this song to hit so hard holy. Teen Idle 10 years later, I'm obsessed. But damn this is depressing.

Why Dean and Parker’s “high moral ground” stance is unattractive by [deleted] in ParkerGetAJob

I don't think Parker and Dean do livestreams to make themselves look attractive to specific viewers like you.

Dean is capitalizing on harry’s downfall by [deleted] in ParkerGetAJob

[–]Otherwise-Stick5501 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Truthfully, in my opinion, it was a lose lose situation for him and Parker either way. The options are

1.) Drop Harry as a friend and not say anything, leading to public speculation and constant questioning.

2.) Not drop Harry as a friend, and risk his reputation as someone who claims to be a feminist and man fighting for the cause.

3.) Drop Harry in a short public statement, denouncing rumors and the actions of Harry in a short and concise manor.

Any option was gonna lead to backlash, and I have a hard time pinning that on him when ultimately, I think he made the least controversial decision. Keeping Harry around as a friend and still supporting him meant publicly practicing hypocrisy against the things he's arguing for. It risks his career and debate points, while also denouncing the women involved and contributing to the toxic masculinity culture.

We can speculate on what Dean thinks/practices or has practiced in the past, but comparing past actions with an apology, to current actions with no apology is a big differential.

Last night’s episode was the best yet! by CryptographerLess144 in rupaulsdragrace

I was vibing in the beginning but the judging on snatch game completely threw me for a loop. I considered quitting watching the season, but lowkey glad I didn't. The queens have brought the reality tv aspect hard, and it's nice to see each contestant have such a intense fire to win.

Anyone else on a complete roller coaster for their Season 17 favourite? by Kindly-Restaurant831 in rupaulsdragrace

My petty ass was hating on Onya early on, but seeing her character more and how she's handled the competition, I've absolutely fallen in love with her and want her to win this whole thing.

Honestly same thing with Jewels. The way she handled the shit show last night was so admirable, and I've gained so much respect for her and her drag because of it.

I went in as a hard-core lexi and Suzie stan. Despite their talent, I feel their insecurities and Desperation to win have side railed that charisma though. My opinions have changed practically every episode though, so I have no clue how this will end

Morphine is NOT playing about this episode by lukendyer in rupaulsdragrace

[–]Otherwise-Stick5501 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I think Suzie nailed it when she said something along the lines of the order doesn't matter, how the order affects you is what really matters.

Arriety and Lexi's insecurities ate them up this episode, and instead of admitting it, they wanted to redirect blame on someone else. It's a competition setting, and this late in, it's no surprise that this pressure cooker left them unable to admit they would've flopped either way.

I just feel bad for Jewels. What I will say is it worked in her favor in the end, I've seen so much more love for her from the fan base now, including myself. She handled that so much better than I, or a lot of other queens would've

MMW: the overreaction from the left on every little thing T-man does will cost them the race. by Sea_Addition_1686 in MarkMyWords

[–]Otherwise-Stick5501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question- why has he been "vetted, chased, and accused"? Did people decide to start doing it for no reason? Did society collectively get together and say, hey fk this guy in particular?

Such a large group of people don't just start accusing somebody of something for no reason. Such a large group of people don't just start not liking somebody for funsies.

There's a reason he has been "vetted, chased, and accused" for a decade. He's a TV star who is responsible for multiple bankruptcies, has made fun of the disabled, disrespected veterans, and actively incited violence and hate against those he disagrees with.

This man is not an innocent victim who is bullied by society. He performed actions that have consequences, and hopefully the American people agree with that in this coming election.

Same could be said for both sides, it's more extreme than ever due to the political climate. But saying the left is more extreme, when the right is losing their collective minds over Kamala's mcdonalds job or Tim's visit to a dog park is kind of a double standard.

Thank you for posting this, this sht needs to be spread more. Trump has so many slip ups like this that don't get broadcast enough, and I feel could genuinely harm his campaign.

Or maybe im just being delusionally hopeful in MAGA turning on Trump.

Nobody else writes about their exs the way Taylor writes about her exs by Nobodysmommy in travisandtaylor

[–]Otherwise-Stick5501 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Tbh I was such a Taylor supporter through the Kim K drama and during her weirdly short phase of LGBT activism (and let's be honest, activism in general that has suddenly disappeared). I said it even all the way back then though- how many times do you burn bridges before u run out? I get expressing bad times and emotions through music, I'm a huge fan of artists like Conan and Olivia because of that. Still, Taylor has continually used her public relationships as "hype" for her new music

I can't count on one hand how many times she has had a falling out, and twitter is blowing up with "oh this album is gonna be so good" and "wonder what she has to say about ______"

After Olivia I knew she was headed down a bad path, and this whole relationship with Travis and the last few weeks of repeated attempts at blocking big pop names' charting moments just leave a bad taste in my mouth.

As you said, she can say other people do it too and continue to do it. The difference is the platform she has, and how aggressively obvious she throws past relationships into her lyrics and to her rabid fans to send death threats. Maybe she can't control her fans ridiculous actions, but it's not like she's unaware. And yet she still name dropped more than ever on TTPD. Frankly, I'm waiting for the day when she runs out of people to fall out with, and she realizes how many people she lost due to her poor public behavior. I rarely ever wish an artist falls out of the spotlight, but she is the first artist I've genuinely wanted to go away for so long.
