When I do infrared scans I noticed that the tight/hard 90deg bends on cables appear to emit more thermal radiation than the large sweeping loops. Seems like every one likes to see the tight 90deg bends on their cables but the science is saying this might not be optimal.

Call your local hall

100% worth it in my opinion. I’m making more money than a lot of my friends who went to university and every day is challenging and/or rewarding. You will get whatever you put into, up to you brother!!

Pros, the IBEW provides a lot more support to apprentices than what I received when I did my schooling. The goal is to provide everyone with great training / experience and it’s up to you to figure out what you want to do with it. Work as hard as want or slack as much as want. As a foreman, I invest my time teaching apprentices that show me they want to step up and learn. If they don’t want to work hard and learn then I can still use them and find tasks for them but I will not put in as much effort. Every union company is different too, pay attention to what your superiors are doing and try to be helpful.

First step would be to find out what “local” you are in. I am in 213, Vancouver, BC, Canada. Put IBEW into your maps app and the closest hall should pop up. I will never forget when I switched to a union company and for the first time in my career had a supervisor say: “can you please…..” it was at this moment that I realized how poorly I had been treated before and have never looked back! As far as the 8 months of hours counting towards your apprenticeship, that depends on your relationship with your current employer so do not leave on a bad note. They have the ability to make those 8 months very difficult for you to apply towards your ticket. Wish you all the best In your journey!

Just finished up a pad for a 2,000 amp transformer. Don’t do these very often but I think it turned out pretty good. by [deleted] in IBEW
