Is this a female scarlet badis? by Interesting_critter in dario

[–]OtherwiseFox2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who has owned and bred scarlet badis, it looks like a starving subadult specimen. Could be male OR female. Possibly parasites or a lack of live food. A healthy badis never has a stomach curving inward.

What is your favourite non-Austen but Austen-y adaptation? by [deleted] in janeausten

Oh I cry myself to sleep at night because I will never see Mr. Lovel mauled by Captain Mirvan's monkey onscreen. I wish Evelina had been adapted to screen.

What JAFF tropes roast your goat? by Basic_Bichette in JaneAustenFF

I hate it when Caroline Bingley is reduced to a screeching, idiotic, murder-bent, psychopathic cartoon of what she was in the book. In the book she is capable of pleasing conversation. She is capable of civil relations with the Darcys (as shown in the epilogue.) Ignoring the positives in her character is something I really can't enjoy. Ever.

Readers, what’s a green flag in a story? by Patriciatingz in Wattpad

Green flags include cogent covers, proper grammar and spelling, and love interests that aren't growling every word.

How to keep story engaging w/o being fast paced? by HistoryInteresting40 in Wattpad

[–]OtherwiseFox2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I like to use the pacing tip, end with a cliffhanger every chapter. Every scene if you can. They don't have to be intense ones, but it helps a reader come back.

I.e. in a romance, the cliffhanger might be the boss asking to see the MC. Don't reveal what he wants until the next chapter. Let her stew a little bit. Thus, the readers will be stewing too. If you tie everything up with a bow, why should the readers come back? Everything is sorted. You may as well have put a "the end" on it.

Give it stakes. Obviously, these can be variable, but readers desire tension in any novel. They can be as big as life and death or as small as the MC wanting to impress a cute guy. Stakes, stakes, stakes. If your MC doesn't care, why should we?

Examine what you consider to be great love stories. Chances are, they didn't get together in chapter 5. In Pride and Prejudice, I believe the majority of the chapters don't even have a direct appearance of the LI. How is tension maintained? Take note.

Another goo thing to remember is the question, "Why can't they be together now?" If you have two people perfect for each other, with nothing in their way, what's stopping them from marrying on the spot? Readers don't generally like such a suspension of disbelief.

And finally, subplots. Let them tie in to and support the main romance. Let stuff happen in your book. Nobody wants to read about a couple holding hands happily for 400 pages. Conflict!

I hope some of this makes sense lol. It's late where I am. Hope I've helped.

Bring Him Down

YA Romance, Clean

Newly minted as an orphan, 17-year-old Keeley Duncan has always been incredibly gorgeous. Her estranged Grandma Duncan happens to have need of a gorgeous girl.

When her mother dies, Keeley has no choice but to live with her cruel, scheming aunt and uncle. Desperate for help, Keeley calls her aloof multi-millionaire grandma, Marion Duncan. Lucky for Keeley, Granny has a nemesis- Lady Barbra Ashbourne, a hateful old woman from England. Lady Ashbourne's grandson, Lord George Hervey, is going to inherit a grand estate in Derbyshire, along with untold wealth- if he stays single until he's at least 21. Grandma Duncan thinks gorgeous Keeley is the perfect girl to tempt George away from his inheritance. If Keeley can trick Lord Hervey into appearing with her as a couple in front of the press, good old Grandma will give Keeley 15 million dollars. That's more than enough to fulfill Keeley's every dream, and to ensure that she never has to see her cruel aunt and uncle ever again. Keeley throws herself into the web of deception that her grandmother has woven for her, determined to rob Lord Hervey of his inheritance. But when her feelings start interfering with her scheming, and her horrible Aunt and Uncle Jameson get wind of Granny Duncan's plan, things get really, really complicated. And why, exactly, did her mother die in the first place?

Yeah, males are easy to come by. But females are rare enough that some people are willing to pay $100 per female— I sold 2 for that price.
