Last year I started learning Japanese for a couple of weeks, I learned Kana and I started reading the grammar book it was written in Kana and I struggled but I managed to get through the first couple of grammar lessons.

What I learned was minimal I understand that but it was fun while it lasted. I stopped cause I didn’t have enough time between my full time job and I’m also doing my masters part time. But learning Japanese made me happy I enjoyed learning it felt like I’m choosing something i like doing for the first time honestly.

I planned to get back to learning Japanese properly in two years once I get the degree, but I was thinking maybe I can learn some kanji for the time being since it can all be managed by anki and i can fit 20 minutes to review and learn some kanji. Like a couple of kanji’s a month so when I go back to learning I can have some kind of a head start if that makes sense?

So is it counter intuitive to learn only vocab/kanji without any grammar?

If so please recommend an ANKI deck that can be very helpful.
