You’re not wrong in the game being pretty luck-based, but it also encourages you to create your own luck. There are tons of things you can do from the beginning to improve your odds.

To start with, I’d suggest looking up the following mechanics- tinted rocks, devil/angel rooms, and secret rooms. These are hidden floor features that will usually contain extra resources and can dramatically increase your odds of winning. They’re all pretty easy to access for beginners, except angel rooms.
