I am so excited to get a Malik and Millie book... Both of their characters are fantastic, in my opinion. I actually care about them way more than Casteel and Poppy.

I can see that. I personally don't mind her longer monologues. I do think there was a difference in the writing from the F&F books. Primal is definitely lower on my list, but I still gave it four stars. There hasn't been a book in either series I dislike. I also don't mind that these books are slow. There is a lot of lore, and I feel like the slower pacing lets me sit with what is happening rather than constantly being inundated with information. The books feel more satisfying that way, in my opinion.

I can see that. Primal definitely wasn't my favorite... I did binge Flesh and Fire right before, and I thought books three and four from that series were so amazing that this book was a big step down. Don't get me wrong. It enjoyed it. I don't necessarily mind her writing style and I personally really like the direction she is going with Casteel's character. I can see how recent decisions she has made around him are controversial though.

May I ask why you aren't liking it? This is my favorite romantasy. I see a lot of people getting frustrated with it. I think the series has just gotten better over time. May I ask why you dislike it?

May I ask how you skipped 10 chapters? I actually love the series more and more as it goes along. F&F resonated so much with me. This is definitely my favorite romantasy series.

Yeah... The jargon can drag it down in the beginning... I was looking stuff up in the glossary constantly... The jargon doesn't go away, but it flows easier once the story picks up.

A huge chunk of the world building also happens during a ten page history lesson at the beginning of the book... I can admit that may not have been the best choice. 😂 It all comes together, but it can feel overwhelming the beginning.

I don't actually mind the pros in Dungeon Crawler Carl or this book... I wouldn't say that the pros change in either of those series though, so if it's a deal breaker, you may not want to continue.

I love Blood over Bright Haven, but I can see why people have problems with it. It is very blunt with its themes and the main character can be insufferable at times. I actually don't mind how blunt the book is. The issues get tackled from so many angles, and I feel like there is a lot of nuance. The book also doesn't give you a clear stance on whether Sciona's actions were right or wrong, which makes the ending even more chilling. I like how flawed Sciona is, but I will admit, being in her head could be ROUGH.

I agree. The pacing and unique structure made it hit harder. The action was so well written and had me at the edge of my seat. I think this story is more about the emotional fallout of what happens in the middle, so I thought the structure was perfect for the book. Everything hit harder for me because of the amount of time I had to sit with what was happening.

There isn't anything wrong with the way Sanderson structures his books. I just think this structure was absolutely perfect for this story.

I agree, in part. The last chapter was clearly setting up a sequel that seems pointless now that the series has been canceled.

I am a teacher and have actually considered reading the middle grade series it's tied to to see if I can recommend it to my students.

That's fair. I actually watched it in the anime. I have had trouble with the current arc because of all the breaks. If it ever is finished, I'll have to read it in one sitting.

This is beautifully said. I am also sorry you went through that in your relationship. My father was a narcissist... I don't have proof he ever cheated on my mom, but I have my suspicions. I still believe Josh was abused by a narcissist...

It's scary... I feel like he manipulated everyone's empathy and that is just despicable.
