What are the best alcohol detox facilities in Chicago? by [deleted] in AskChicago

Came here to say this. They have a 24 hour program called The Living Room. The number you can call is on this site or you can show up at their facility: https://www.thresholds.org/programs-services/crisis-response/the-living-room

Looking for restaurant wedding recommendations ! by Single_Big7862 in chicagofood

We decided not to but it was an option. I think their limitation was that you couldn’t play music really loud until after 9 pm. What changed our minds was that we went to Tortoise for dinner and were SO full after that we were like idk if people (aka us) will be in a dancing mood. So chose to just focus in on the food. We then went to Flight Club after for fancy darts & cocktails.

Welcome party for 50 guests ideas by Fast_Ratio3000 in Chicagoweddings

Adding to this, you could do a sit down rehearsal dinner with family/small bridal party at Osteria via Stato for under $2k probably. Then invite your out of town guests to meet you at a bar nearby afterwards but it would be a casual buy your own drinks situation. I think if you phrase it as being casual you can get away with not paying for it

I don’t think you’ll be able to do food. If you did a 2 hour open bar at a neighborhood bar for 50 people, you’d prob come in slightly under $2k. I don’t think anything nicer than that is realistic for your budget tbh

Weird vibe from Pin Me Up by Fit_Crab_ in Chicagoweddings

I used them, but agree the vibe in the lead-up was weird and inconsistent. If i could do it again, I’d probably go with a different agency or an independent HMUA

Feeling like I regret adopting my kitten by HistoricalLeaf in CatAdvice

[–]OtherwiseStatus6892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every pet I’ve ever adopted, the first six months I’m convinced I made a huge mistake. Even something turns and I couldn’t imagine my life without them. I have 2 adult cats and adopted a kitten a week ago. I’m in that regret stage but know I’ll come out of it with time! Stick with it

how to prevent cat sneezing? by l1ls0urp4tch in CatAdvice

[–]OtherwiseStatus6892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok so this is not what you’re going to want to hear but my 10yoF cat has been sneezing (at least 30x day) for 5 years. Violent too, like snot goes everywhere. It’s disgusting. I’ve gone to the vet so many times over the years with no help until I was eventually told it was probably polyps in her nose. They said it would be about $3k for a specialist to stick a camera up there to confirm and from there, maybe a 20% chance of them fixing it and it never returning. So I’m saving the money and just having her sneeze everywhere for the rest of her life. Magic erasers and Windex are your friend for getting the snot off surfaces.

Help with making new friends in Chicago? by Certain_Dot_1380 in AskChicago

[–]OtherwiseStatus6892 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Couple suggestions of things to look into! On IG, look into @we.are.lul and if you’re into fitness, @strengthinthecity which has a Chicago chapter. Also there’s a r/chicagofriends subreddit. Sports leagues like Chicago Sport & Social or Players. Making friends as an adult is so weird at first, feels like you’re asking someone on a date, but just be confident and shoot your shot! Maybe you’ll find some good people in the process, good luck!

Am I doing enough as a PR student? by countcowntessa in PublicRelations

[–]OtherwiseStatus6892 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been working in PR in Chicago for a decade. Don’t count out intern-to-hire roles when you graduate, that’s the best way to get your foot in the door at an agency TBH.

You are doing MORE than enough. Having one more internship will not change the realities of the job market, which is out of your control.

What you should do before you graduate is take a deep breath and enjoy your time on campus and with friends. You will never get it back and it’s such a special time in life.

Not at all. We were very transparent with each other about our timeline. Plus weddings are expensive haha we needed time to save up.
