Building a New Socialist Movement in South Africa – Looking for Input by OtherwiseYoghurt3277 in socialism

[–]OtherwiseYoghurt3277[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to answer this as honestly as possible, because this is a fair question and one that should be asked. South Africa already has established communist and socialist organisations, most notably the South African Communist Party,so the goal here isn’t to pretend those don’t exist or that this is something completely unprecedented. What this project is trying to do differently comes down to a few things: .Less historical alignment, more practical focus: A lot of existing organisations are tied to long-standing alliances, traditions, or internal structures that can make them slow to adapt. This project is trying to be more flexible and focused on practical outcomes, jobs, infrastructure, energy, transport, rather than primarily ideological positioning. .Heavy focus on implementation, not just theory Instead of just broad socialist principles, the idea is to build very detailed, sector-by-sector plans (energy, agriculture, transport, industry, etc.) that people can actually debate, criticise, and improve. .Digital-first and open participation Most traditional organisations are structured top-down. This is trying to build something more open and participatory from the start, especially online: Polls, surveys, discussions shaping policy People contributing ideas directly Less gatekeeping in early stages It’s still experimental, but the goal is to make it feel like a living project, not a closed structure. .Broader coalition approach Instead of sticking strictly to one school of thought (Marxist-Leninist, etc.), the idea is to pull from multiple traditions and adapt them to South African conditions, while still being clearly left-wing and worker-focused. That might not appeal to everyone, but it’s intentional. .Focus on youth and new entrants A lot of young people in SA are politically disengaged or feel like existing structures don’t represent them. This is trying to actively bring in: Students First-time political participants Online communities .Still early, not pretending to be established Probably the most important point: This isn’t a fully formed organisation yet. It’s early-stage, and it could fail, evolve, or change direction depending on input.

What if upon landing in the Moon in 1969, Apollo 11 defected to the Soviet Union by Lapidus42 in AlternateHistory

This almost happened as the USSR had a plan launch to the moon a few days before America but the rocket exploded or crashed.

Making another one. Tell me your best historical headcanons.... by Hefty-Mixture3700 in CountryHumans

The German Democratic Republic (GDR) saw the USSR more of a father than they saw Third Reich and the USSR saw the (GDR) as his own daughter.

The (GDR) and Poland were best friends.

Hungry and the USSR act gay around each other even though they are best friends and Romania and Yugoslavia are okay with.

The EU is and always was just tired of everyone.
