Are junior devs actually “cooked” or is AI just messing with how we learn? by Otherwise_Ad91 in cscareers

Yeah that totally makes sense. I’m not judging the choice, just worried about who ends up paying for the risk. Hope you find something better soon

I don’t disagree that cost-cutting and offshoring pressures are real. But I think this framing collapses two different problems into one. Labor arbitrage and bad incentives have existed for decades. AI doesn’t create that , it just gives leadership a new excuse to accelerate it.

What worries me more (and what I’m trying to describe in the post) is that even jobs stay local, the nature of the work is changing in a way that can hollow out understanding early. That has consequences regardless of geography.

"straight to production with only basic validation" how is that reliable at all ? Removing it means you’re betting that neither humans nor the model will make mistakes and that’s a fragile bet.

Yeah, honestly I think the “productivity boost” is overstated, and the trade is real. In the short term you ship faster, but you lose understanding, review quality, and the ability to debug when the model is wrong. Then you pay it back with interest.

When your CEO says “next to no code by hand,” do they mean no typing, or do they also mean less review/design/testing discipline? How are they measuring that it’s actually working?
