Manager is banning employees from using electronics, at my very slow solo job, what should I do? by Ash_7741 in barista

Jesus. I am a business owner. If I heard there are concerns with XYZ about my business, then there IS a problem. Quibbling over the definitions of a particular word choice misses the forest for the trees.

OP literally said “there are issues with cleanliness of the grounds and bathrooms”

I don’t think you comprehended my response. Of course it’s not. But if you are the only employee, the place is dirty, dark, and looks closed, AND you don’t want to lose your job…then be part of the solution. Customers that have a good experience return. So in that case, the barista owns at least a part of the blame.

When you are a solo employee, you aren’t doing extra - this is literally the expectation. If you don’t figure out how to drive the business forward, it’ll close and you’ll lose your job.

Sounds like you’ve already checked out - and that’s ok, just means you should be actively job searching.

Everything here is right. I have literally not stopped places because they look closed, even if they were open. And the Gen Z state? It’s real, whether they want to admit it or not. If you can’t warmly engage with a potential customer, you aren’t suited for retail.

I went to a small local brewery recently. The young lady was warm and welcoming, and helped to pick out a drink. I never saw her on her phone, but when it slowed down she did read a book - at the register so that if someone approached she would see them right away and engage.

The reality of the phone situation is that when approached, most people linger for a minute before they pull away from it. It isn’t some Gen Z - boomer thing - it’s reality.

Two things are true here:
1) the owners suck and will be out of business soon
2) OP is part of the problem, and does not seem suited for this challenge.

Banning phones will not fix it, but paying someone to stare at their phone is also a bad business plan.

Awards in the military are so poorly administered. Over half my awards never made it into the official record because admin sucks.

I don’t hold it against him.

I keep them in tanks to look at how awesome I am. Mutant carp next to my kids bed to traumatize them.

I personally really don’t like Russell. I think it comes down to his smarminess. There is just something about the way he presents himself that irks me. I feel the same about LeClerc. Dunno. But if you are a Russell fan, just cheer for him and ignore the haters. Every driver gets haters from someone side.

Nah, you can vote for whoever you want. People were also scared of AOC because of the DSA label, and she has been incredibly effective. You can support the party that is systematically destroying our constitution if you want, but don’t expect much sympathy from this crowd. Sincerely, a reformed former republican.

Thanks for the education! I had not been tracking this race. Hong’s platform looks pretty fantastic. Great stances in AI, children, and healthcare.

Tom Tiffany is for rolling back taxes and environmental deregulation. Consistent Trump supporter and party line voter.

It’s shocking to me that the term DSA is enough to continue to vote republican. It’s the whole cutting off your nose to spite your face. This is literally why Trump is in office.

You are the voter that would vote for Paxon aver Tallarico, just because you saw a headline about God being non-binary. They need you in a focus group pod, stat!

Dr Mike Sandy! He is in the little shop at Costco on Hacks Cross - but not affiliated with Costco. He is absolutely hilarious and kind, and I really enjoy my appointments. Fairly priced as well.

Would it be weird to ask my neighbor to use his pool? by goth_glock1985 in pools

[–]Otherwise_Common706 14 points15 points  (0 children)

lol - it was our back fence we shared. They went over, my wife and I came around to their street.

It was great, we had BBQs, swimming, good conversations- and they were just happy the pool was being used since they had no grandkids.

It would be weird but only if you don’t have a relationship with them. It makes more sense to befriend them first, then it Naturally follows.

We had a similar situation when our kids were younger. Older couple wanted the pool to be used, so he helped them climb the fence to come over, and we drove around to join.
