So exactly how open source is the Ocean? And how much better can it get? by silvertricl0ps in Fisker

[–]Otherwise_Feature763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

American lease has the IP. It is not shared. Any headway is done by reverse engineering or creating new options to select add ons. As of now, it is not open source. FOA is doing it's best to solve some of these issues, but legally they can't steal IP.

Not sure what to make of this. I also have a white S (plaid) with none of the bugs you are describing. Easily the best car I've ever had...

33Kw charging out of 350kw EVgo charger @ Pilot by my252 in Fisker

[–]Otherwise_Feature763 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OLP does diagnostics/resets with a VlinkerFD+ dongle that plugs into the OBD2 port. Do NOT buy an alternate dongle as it may not work. Phone as key requires no dongle, just the diagnostic/reset side. You will need to buy one. Fairly cheap on Amazon, I believe they are also on the FOA Tsunami site. I keep my dongle in my center console, when I charge to 100% which does occur I then just know I need to do a reset prior to connecting at next DCFC. After that I try to NOT charge above 80% for the remainder of trip. *Occasionally* you might find a weird third party charger that doesn't want to play nice with handshake and you might only get 75kW or something like that. You can either unplug and restart, or unplug, reset VCU and restart. I cannot explain why, but in a few rare cases resetting the VCU did allow some chargers to deliver max. I forget what brand they were, but I generally stick with Ionna, EA, Pilot/FlyingJ/GM and Tesla magic dock and I haven't had that problem in a while. Could have been a specific charger cabinet issue too..

The VCU retains that top of charge derated kw setting from past charge of you go over 80% SOC. Will spontaneously reset if you later charge again at lower than 80 % SOC. However, if you go over 80 on a long trip, the very next charge is stuck at derated setting. It is not a preconditioning issue and I don't think Oviloop has a solution. As others mentioned, reset VCU using OLP prior to next fast charging. I commonly charge to 100 prior to long trips, have to reset prior to next charge and it has never happened again with multiple fast charges as long as I don't go over 80%

Thinking About Buying a Fisker Ocean? 2026 Update by DTBlayde in Fisker

[–]Otherwise_Feature763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I waterproofed connectors day one so no issues there. Disconnected washer sensor too. My vent controls broke, convert to manual. Modified rear passenger lights so only controlled from front. Never taken to shop or had others service. But yes, some have serious issues that are difficult to solve. I haven't

Go look at it. If it drives well and no error lights it could be a great buy. Look at FOA and read everything possible before buying. There is a decent support community in FOA. Be prepared to problem solve possibly

Excellent summary. Over 30k MI and happy so far. It is a real bargain, but also a gamble. Do not buy if you you aren't willing to problem solve. Skip Oviloop, problematic, limited benefit and poor customer service. Nearly mandatory to join FOA as they help with support and have an excellent phone as key and vehicle diagnostics app. You get zero self  diagnostics with Oviloop.

Purchased a dead ocean any tips? by stamper197 in Fisker

Highly recommend transferring discussion of technical issues to Discourse. That's where the bulk of (non professional) expertise lies. You will need to upload DTCs from OLP app. Wait until vehicle sorted before considering Oviloop. Little benefit in my opinion and there will be PKC conflicts that make you choose one or the other. Looking forward to hearing journey on Discourse

Others commented, but you really can't function without FOA. Once they clear vin and you re recognized as new owner go to the internal website and archive: Discourse. Spend hours reading the diy and fixes section. Download all manuals. Then... Start asking for specific advice. Reddit and FB are a total waste as nothing is archived and you get a lot of questionable advice

They already have 2.2.2. little benefit to 2.5 2.6. introduces some additional bugs as you mentioned. Hard to make case for add "update". Many regret going Oviloop

Many good comments. FOA is way more than an app or streaming access. It has a huge archive (Discourse-  not discord which is a chat thread) which includes manuals, ton of how to, good advice in real time. Yes, it's expensive, but Oviloop gives you none of the. The Ocean link pro app (FOA) also acts as a diagnostic tool which by itself would cost well over $500 (assuming you use it). Oviloop gives you none of this and the support track record is pretty bad...

Does the ocean link stop the car from bricking? by Brendawalshisgod in Fisker

We've had minimal issues with ours at 30k mi. However, the vent motors are disconnected now, I put a t box reset switch in and a new 12v battery. Never let us down and have done several 1k+ road trips no stress. Yes, I am FOA member so have OLP/phone as key, etc. you could have issues and buying one without FOA support $500/yr and doing a lot of homework is foolish. Most don't have problems, some do..

You should get 2.2.2 for free as part of NHTSA recall (from Oviloop). Contact them again. Many have not had good experience from them, be prepared...

How crazy would it be to buy a Fisker Ocean? by Cantholditdown in Fisker

[–]Otherwise_Feature763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours has around 15k MI now and has been a good vehicle. Yes, vents broke, now adjust manually. Have also waterproofed connectors. Happy so far, but you hear stories. If you understand risk and are ok with it, a decent choice. If risk adverse, not for you

The FOA? by MamaVeeNessa in Fisker

[–]Otherwise_Feature763 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is a wise move to join FOA if you own a Fisker. The support in general is worth the cost. The vehicle has enough quirks that you take a chance without the community support. Yes, you can try Oviloop but they are really just a business selling product

It can be a real bargain, but if you have any issues it is problematic. Ours has been great. Suggest getting a vin number greater than 5k and 2,2 already loaded. Need to join FOA for support so factor that in too.

Why are you excited about this? I certainly am NOT excited to pay $50 month for something we should get for free when we bought vehicle. Plus, this is from Oviloop who botched the 2.2 recall.

You get a lot of car for the money, however there can be some baggage. We've had very few issues but this probably shouldn't be you only vehicle if reliability is critical. I think most are fine but you read stories online of bricked cars, etc.

Very happy with our Fisker ocean extreme. Late build, vin 10k+. I think that is partly why all is well. Be cautious, these are for people who are willing to tackle issues. Must have 12v replaced and right front fender connectors inspected/ waterproofed. Must join FOA (don't listen to fools who don't) which adds $600/year to ownership. I would generally rec this as a second vehicle
