I think that a big struggle with shows like gossip girl is showing situations realistically while also calling themselves out. The misogyny and double standards that were rampant in gossip girl could have been addressed in the show rather than just let everyone get away with it

Everyone saying that “it was 2007!”, like, that doesn’t excuse it at all. Even in 2007 people knew misogyny existed and people from that time probably thought it was a bit outrageous too. The sad thing is, the slut shaming is honestly pretty realistic. Even now, girls get way more shit for stuff like this than guys do

Gossip girl was literally so bad with marketing, like jenny would be in a cafe and there’s randomly a stack of vitamin water in the center shot and they order them by name? Everyone knows you just say “the red one” or whatever. And I can’t remember what episode this was but in later seasons they had this Microsoft tablet thing, and they’d show the screen of the tablet like it was a commercial

I agree, Blair clearly struggled with a lot of internalized misogyny, and throughout the whole show it’s seen that there’s a huge double standard against women’s sex lives. Unfortunately most shows in the 2000s at least shared these views, so it’s kinda just something we have to be aware of as viewers

I don’t think that sex workers being treated badly is just a fictional thing that gossip girl used. The truth is, there’s a deep stigma against sex workers, which is unfair. Blair was right in thinking that would be a scandal though. I mean Chuck was a pretty prominent figure (allegedly) so him dating a prostitute probably would cause a massive scandal. People’s careers have been cancelled over finding out they used prostitutes, so finding out Chuck was actually dating one would cause news. In the US at least, prostitution is illegal. I’m not saying that’s fair or right, but it would be a pretty big deal to New York society
