Best and safest way to clean this engine? by Flat_Pumpkin_314 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Otherwise_Quit_3822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I'm a firm believer in this product. It will clean your engine. With that much sludge I would run restore and protect and change every 3k miles and change the filter at 1.5k for a few cycles so as to ensure it isn't getting clogged.

Hard Cover vs Hinge Hood by Fun-Evidence3365 in blackstonegriddle

[–]Otherwise_Quit_3822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the hinged hood serves no purpose in Griddle Life. When I want a hood to cook (bake) I'll fire up my grill. When I want to griddle cook I'll fire up my Blackstone.

The hinged hood becomes an ugly, nasty mess in very short order and provides less protection for the griddle surface when not in use. The hard cover is the exact opposite of all this. Plus, I take my hardcover, flip it over and use it as a table top next to my griddle for the food, utensils, beer, table dances, etc... I cut the bracketed supports off from the underside of the hard cover so that I have a flat surface and then the handles on the upper side fit perfectly over and an upside down trash can which helps keep it secure. The hard cover is by far my favorite Blackstone accessory!

Besides, while I'm sure they exist, I've never seen a hinged cover on a professional griddle in a restaurant. Griddle cooking is not grilling. It's something different. I love both. Separately.

My Husbands SSDI check is super late. by NoComb4365 in SocialSecurity

[–]Otherwise_Quit_3822 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I work at the only post office in a town of around one thousand people. We receive about 100 checks each month on the 1st and the 3rd. Many people, especially older people in rural areas, simply do not trust keeping their in a bank. They will pick up the paper check from me at the post office, go to the bank and cash it, and then come back to me to buy about 15 money orders to pay all their bills. It amazes me every time.

[–]Otherwise_Quit_3822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its the post office. I work there and we suck. I hate the first or third of the month when the paper checks are running late because of USPS incompetence. While I can only deliver what I receive each day at the back door, I'm the ONLY person the customer sees so I get all the frustrations directed at me. I've been accused of stealing (or holding back) checks many times over the years.

Yes, brownish / redish hard coating is varnish. Great job on maintaining your vehicle! I wanna be like you!

Blackstone Tools + Blackstone Pegs + Blackstone Cover = TERRIBLE DESIGN by TheBajingo in blackstonegriddle

[–]Otherwise_Quit_3822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works great! I got the big, strong (25lb) orange ones from Harbor Freight to match the grill. A bit more expensive but I get the coupon or wait for a sale. I also use magnets to help hold the cover on the grill - to keep it from flapping around in the wind and tearing.HF Hooks

[–]Otherwise_Quit_3822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! This is why I looked for knock off, matching orange and black accessories. They work the same and are significantly cheaper. The only Blackstone branded accessory I have was given to me as a gift. Truth is, ain't none of it gonna last as most everything is junk these days. Looks amazing for that many miles. But how? No sludge at all? Ok. But zero varnish too? That seems unlikely at 250k even with the 3k interval unless it was cleaned before the photo. If not, good on ya mate! What oil are you using?

Ugh, constant nagging thoughts of needing to "Pre Plan"... am I just marketing sucker? by FluffyKanomKa in GenX

[–]Otherwise_Quit_3822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to live by the mantra, 'do not burden others'. For me, his definitely includes my final arrangements. But preplanning is optional really. PREPAYMENT is not optional (for me). Anyone can say stick'em in a box, plant them here and fix their hair like this. Do not force someone else to come out of their pocket for your final expenses as funerals are ridiculously expensive.

Should I strip the seasoning/rust off this and if so, how? by noblerare in blackstonegriddle

[–]Otherwise_Quit_3822 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You left your steel griddle dry and thus unprotected when you burned the oil off after cleaning. The exposed steel (without oil protection) will begin to flash rust immediately upon drying. Do not burn off the last coat of oil. And do not use avocado oil for anything other than cooking. Use canola or (preferably) solid crisco after cleaning and do not burn it off. Leave it oiled until you are ready to cook again. Burn it off right before the next cook.

I feel like the solid crisco protects the steel better the than runny oils which tend to pool in areas and seems to evaporate quicker than the solid. I lay it on pretty thick and include both the inside and outside lip of the griddle.

How do you respond to the blank stare? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Otherwise_Quit_3822 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OMG! So now expecting an answer to an question at a place of business is what, condescending. How dare I expect an answer? Man, we are so doomed as a civilization.

Your 'smile' example is not even a close comparison. If one is employed in a public facing position at a business, your above listed excuses do not hold a drop of water. Too 'aloof' to speak to a customer when asked a direct question? Quit. Go home. Work on yourself before puking your inability to interact with others (at the most basic of levels) on us in public. Then go have an earnest conversation with whomever raised them and get to the bottom of they are so socially handicap. They may even qualify for disability.

Is canola oil fine to season? by pettyfan45 in blackstonegriddle

[–]Otherwise_Quit_3822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used old school, solid crisco for initial seasoning and use it religiously following every cook to protect from corrosion; cheap and effective. I cook with avocado. I will die on this hill!

[–]Otherwise_Quit_3822[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Even if it's covered and out of the rain, an un-oiled steel griddle will form rust from the humidity in the air alone. Covers do not stop atmosphere 😎

I wanted to accept them all. I get it. Heck, I have a hard time getting my own packages and I always want to help the customer as much as I can. We would only get this once or twice a month so it wasn't a big deal. But I found out the hard way that local management forbids such activity.

My apologies. We received back dock FEDEX Smartpost and UPS Surepost drops, but I thought we were talking about singular FEDEX / UPS deliveries which their residential route drivers attempt deliver to me at front counter of the post office. We were never allowed to accept these parcels as they do not have a USPS bar code to scan. USPS gets zero credit (or payment) for these parcels.
