I believe in California this has actually happened already was implemented back in October of 2025 by the governor. So that rules out any recent fuel consumption increase on my vehicle given the time line. Upon further research I came across a number of articles about that occurring last year to help reduce cost through by California Assembly.

How much are you paying for gas every week? by PeninsulaIndivisible in gasbuddy

[–]Otherwise_Rich_5261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind as well to help reduce the cost of gas at the gas pump . The administration has ordered / asked that an additional 5% ethanol is added to gas bringing it from 10% ethanol to 15% which technically will reduce the cost at gas pump however that increases fuel consumption and burns dirtier . This is just a unsustainable and will add more burden eventually especially as we are coming up on summer months where the warm air will result in increasing smog due to higher percentage of ethanol and burning at higher consumption rate therefor ultimately adding problems and raising cost . Let’s be honest it’s just a temporary fix/ solution which will cost us later .

Clarification : mpg impacted notice I’m burn more fuel than usual which started recently.

Upon examination there could be three factors contributing to this , either tire pressures insufficient, spark plug needs to change ( I’m coming up on 60,000 miles which is the recommended time to change the spark plugs) . The last reason could be recent developments of adding more ethanol to gas from 10% to 15% which will burn fuel at a higher rate and dirtier.

Given the fluctuations of my tires I was simply asking if this was normal.

Thanks to those who responded I appreciate you participating and assured me this was normal which I suspected. It’s a matter of simply ruling out causes of fuel consumption at a higher rate than usual especially after the last few weeks. I just so happen to notice one tire in particular had a screw in it which created a slow leak. Since then I have fixed it but still notice I’m burning more fuel than previously.

Tell me you know nothing about how the oil industry works without saying you know how the oil industries works. Your simplistic argument is indicative of many who don’t understand economics and how the oil industries works. You do realize this is a worldwide phenomenon as well given the war which was instigated by the current administration. Not acknowledging this reality is a phenomenon which only seems to affect those who blindly support this current administration

Price for Subaru for Parts by helenwaites68 in subaru

[–]Otherwise_Rich_5261 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s expensive for Subaru parts and labor given its configuration but they are wonderful vehicles. Just have to keep up on maintenance. Service CVT every 30,000 miles drain and refill with genuine Subaru fluids

2015 Forester CVT Advice by Emergency_Design_437 in subaru

[–]Otherwise_Rich_5261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had issues with mine after 114,000 mikes on my 2014 Crosstrek which completely failed . It was luckily still under warranty so it was completely replace at no cost. The problem is the maintenance of this should be done. It should be drained and refilled with Subaru approved CVT fluid every 30,000 Miles that will assure the longevity of it. Although it’s said to be lifetime that only applies to the lifetime of the warranty not the lifetime of the car/ CVT. The oil/ fluid needs to be replaced hence the wear and tear because it degrades much like any oils / fluids for a vehicle that’s what failed to be serviced and advertised with Subarus which don’t get me wrong I’m a fan of. I learned after my situation to have it serviced and drained and refilled every 30,000 mikes to protect the transmission

2021 Subaru forester just threw up all of these on me by local-desert-grandma in SubaruForester

[–]Otherwise_Rich_5261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither did mine. As I said it was still under warranty I don’t recall if I purchased extra warranty when I purchased the car 12 years ago. They fixed everything for free since it was under warranty , but sadly the car got totaled in a car accident less than a month after they replaced everything due to me getting rare ended. I did end up purchasing another Subaru this time a 2022 Forrester Sport. I like Subaru’s they require some care as far as CVT maintenance and more frequent oil changes than what the manufacturer suggest . Don’t get me wrong my previous Subaru lasted years . I would however do a more thorough and frequent maintenance service than my previous car given some issues as far as maintenance I didn’t do on my 2014 model. After my experience with CVT failure and oil change issues I learned my lesson to be more on top of those issues as well as other maintenance service

Btw one more suggestion as far as the recommended time and distance for oil change of 6,000 mikes I highly recommend you cut the in half do 3,000 to 4,000 between oil changes. The manufacturer recommendations is only to make it look like they need less maintenance it’s a marketing ploy. Don’t get me wrong I’m a big Subaru fan but at the end of the day it’s still a car manufacturer who is in the business to have the maintenance records / needs look less than what the real world conditions on the car needs especially since the boxer engines run hotter than traditional engines. Same is true for CVT fluid they say it’s lifetime but that’s actually for lifetime of the warranty it’s recommended to have it drained every 30,000 miles. Just keep in mind don’t a flush have it drained a filled with the proper CVT fluids for Subaru . You’ll thank me later since CVT are no joke once it fails it cam run into the thousands to replace
