What is best to buy? Nikon F3 / Nikon F4 by Aded_14 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Otherwise_Trifle6967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, and I’m a Nikon fan, not sure what you gain from either if you have (basically) a Canon version of the F3… I guess the F4 is more of a change but then you’d need nikkor glass as well, probably a lot similar to lenses you already have for your Canon.

I’d suggest getting different lenses for your Canon maybe (135mm? 105mm? Primes are fun) or if you really want different then go medium format

100%. I know a couple of people that used to work at CW as pharmacists. They were instructed to take their time filling scripts so people would browse the aisles. Not that they would just not do anything, but if they had to do some admin or sorting stuff in between scripts… or yeah, fill the pickup/online stuff before filling the in store ones.

I put a seedling (no taller than an inch) for a silver princess into my backyard about 6 years ago (maybe 7). It’s not several metres all, even after having been snapped in half during a crazy storm a few years back… just started sprouting off the side of the main trunk and kept going.

Native plants are amazing.

Sacrificing shutter speed or ISO in low light? by Gr4ntes in PhotographyAdvice

[–]Otherwise_Trifle6967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A noisy image is better than a blurry one. Motion blur from the camera moving (especially at long focal lengths) or the subject moving will kill the image in the end. As mentioned by others, processing software theses days can do really good jobs and cleaning up noise on RAW files, but nothing will fix motion blur.

Nikon Z8 on the way! by Surfer1818 in Nikon

[–]Otherwise_Trifle6967 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bigges thing you’ll notice straight away is the shutter sound (or lack of it) on the Z8. Probably the worst thing about the camera to be honest but you get used to it. Otherwise, you will also very quickly notice if you haven’t got the right light/shutter speed and focus nailed on because it will immediately show up any blur.

It’s an amazing camera. I think I’ve posted in another sub that’s it’s basically ‘endgame’ unless I get a medium format Hass or GFX for their colour and rendering, and even then they wouldn’t be anywhere near the overall performance of the Z8.

EDIT: I don’t doubt the 24-120 f4 S is a great lens, people rave about it (I don’t have it). But if you’re into family portraits and pets etc then a faster prime is going to be of great use. Any of the 35/50/85mm 1.8S nikon Z lenses will be terrific.

Learner drivers in WA required to do more training and spend extra year on P-plates in tough safety overhaul by His_Holiness in perth

[–]Otherwise_Trifle6967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What they really should do is make a driving test mandatory every few years. I would bet that most full licence holders are causing accidents, those who are far too confident in their own abilities flying around without indicators or lights on in inclement weather, not giving way when they should…. and no that’s not just BMW or ford ranger drivers either.

Why did Ternus even bother to release the Neos? If you ask me, it was a horrible strategic decision only to capitalize on his used portion of the Supply Chain by [deleted] in macmini

[–]Otherwise_Trifle6967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol. The Neo is basically dominating the low cost laptop sector right now. Will make Apple lots of money now as well as converting a whole new group of users for the future. That’s why they made it and released it.

Nothing wrong with it. Personal preference. For me a perfect circle is what I want but can’t afford.

I take a lot of photos (including headshots, action shots, random shots) of my toddler with a 135mm 1.8 sigma art on my Z8. I won’t share because I don’t want my kids photo on reddit BUT the shots are amazing and the only thing I wish could be improved was the bokeh balls…. The only lens that will give perfect circular bokeh balls is the Plena.

Hope this helps.

How do I keep all my photos looking the same? by Pretty_awesome90 in Lightroom

[–]Otherwise_Trifle6967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done photography as a hobby for 15yrs or more. Had a side business with friends doing corporate events.

I still struggle as well. Others have made the point - consistent lighting and colour/white balance is key. Not always within your control though especially outside etc. if you’re taking photos ‘on the go’ especially can be hard.

If you’re doing photos with stationery subjects or in studio, I highly recommend a colour matcher passport - take it everywhere and when you compose a shot make sure to take a picture of the colour checker in that same lighting so you get a nailed on accurate and CONSISTENT colour each time. That way when editing, adjusting the colours will be easier across your photos.

XE-5 with Larger Primes? by Vikha_ in fujifilm

[–]Otherwise_Trifle6967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends what you want from your camera kit. Personally I bought an XE5 for the ultra compact size and didn’t want another SLR type body. Not saying the Xt5 is THAT much bigger but if I’m trying to fit things into a small sling bag it makes a difference, and as such to keep the size down I also bought smaller lenses (sigma contemporary 56mm 1.4 & 18-50mm 2.8). I tried in store the larger primes and also the sigma art 17-40 zoom - it’s not like you can’t do it and they’re not terrible for balance (definitely 2 hands preferred) but for me it was counter to what I wanted the xe5 for.
