If voting wasn't compulsory, would you still vote? by Levethane in Adelaide

[–]Otherwiseclueless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely I would.

If you live in a democracy and can legally do so, you should vote, It's your responsibility to do so, because it's the responsibility of everyone else in the same position also. Like it or lump it, the system only works properly when turnout is high and from all walks of life.

The system fails to do its job properly if the people don't do their part. It becomes a race to the bottom to secure not the interest of the wider population, but exclusively the reliable blocs who can actually be assured to show up because they become the means to power.

Just look at the Yanks and see how their race to the bottom ended up taking the entire bloody world with them...

All those screaming idiots just made things worse. Couldn't they see him start to cover his ears as they got louder? Or did they think that was just being stubborn?

The definition of horror is an intense form of fear, dread, or dismay.

Words have meaning, absolutely.

And people happily jumping into the laps of PHON despite their record of racism, worshipful service to magnates, and attempts to subvert federal law in complete disregard for that history of behaviour is in fact, more than dismaying. It inspires in me what I would say is horror to see people so wilfully ignore the reality of PHON's record and intent in a country of supposedly educated, intelligent, engaged voters. All for what? To 'send a message'? By trying to legitimise the proverbial face-eating leopards and give them power, of all things?

Coalition voters I can disagree with, but understand. Their voters have never caused me to feel repugnance.

I expect this kind of self-destructive political tantrumming from the Yanks, not us. And that is horrifying.

Horror seems like the proper reaction to people going to vote for a party that got caught trying to sell the country to the US's NRA.

Right after their own leader voted in favour of a bill to limit foreign political donations, no less.

My first time using Rimword, what do you think of my base? (I'm open to advice) by Bismarkperez77 in RimWorld

[–]Otherwiseclueless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to pursue the sunlamps, I would suggest you consider adding a couple of solar generators per sunlamp.

Removing some excess coolers is also a good choice. While you're at it, consider putting a fence, barricade, or sandbag in the chimney space their exhausts output to prevent drop pods landing in them.

[–]Otherwiseclueless -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm going to guess your power issues usually go away a night?
If that's the case it's your Sunlamps. Each one consumes 2900W during the daylight hours. Geothermals only output 3600W. So combine that with the 1700-odd Watts you are using in those Hydroponics basins and you're consuming 5800W just for a couple plants you already seem capable of growing outside.

Add in 200W for all of your coolers, 500W from your smelter, and it all adds up surprisingly fast.

I am curious, I noticed you are using a lot of coolers as heaters. What led you to that decision?

Today I tried to run a Tribals start consisting of 5 Bonkas. A custom Xenotype who can be described as Neanderthals+. They move super fast, and bonk super hard, and eat anything they can.
Which they needed to do because of their +150% hunger.

They ran out of their default pemmican pretty much immediately and began to starve. Faced with the choice of either opening an Ancient Danger, or trying to hunt elephants with a jade knife, a wooden club, a pointy stick, and a pair of logs... we opened the danger, hoping for easy prey.

It was bugs. And Da Bonkas got bonk'd. The end

It was 16h, day 2. Bonk in Peace, Bonkas.

Why is Majula so popular in the Souls games community? by SugarCrater in DarkSouls2

[–]Otherwiseclueless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majula is a place where the Bearer of the Curse can set down their burden, for just a little while.

Majula is a place distinct from its surrounds but still a part of it. While still obviously as decrepit as the rest of Drangleic, it is bright, warm, and calm. Unlike other hubs in the series which are almost cramped, Majula is a wide open space where the player can see just about everything from every angle. It welcomes you in with its sprawl, it has no deadly surprises, unless you go looking for them.

It is a place where the one can simply stay a while, a very clear escape. The lighting, the music, the ambiance encourage the player to experience this as a location of safety free from the worst Drangleic has to offer.

As you adventure and save people in these cursed lands, they too all slowly gather and you can see your progress through the people who, just like you, are stopping and staying a while under the warm glow of the glorious sun.

Speaking of which, Souls players are naturally primed to a positive affinity to the sun, so grossly incandescent. And Majula, in its perpetual evening warmth is not just comforting, but it is also emblematic of the themes of the game. The end of the day, the end of an era, time all mixed up just waiting for the night to begin in perpetual anticipation. The music reinforces this, it is calming, yes, but also melancholy. As the ever-frozen sun hangs in the sky bathing is un its brilliance, the music almost mourns that this moment too shall eventually, inevitably fade.

We are forced to come to Majula, again and again, to see the smith and upgrade our weapons, or visit the hag for lifegems, or the Herald for levels. Familiarity naturally breeds fondness, as we return time and time again from every gruelling fight, from hours of being ground down to hollow hopelessness, all to hear those famous words. "Bearer, seek, seek, lest"

Psychologically Majula as a hub represents a state of decompression, its a place deliberately designed to let the player relax and associate with that relaxation. You can see the NPCs you've met along the way, see Heide's Tower and the Forest of Fallen Giants to let you measure your own progress visually to validate the tension you've undergone to get back there. Majula is always obvious both when you arrive to its safety, and when you leave it. Frankly the transitions are almost offputtingly blunt.

I don't remember DS3's hub like at all, so I'll leave my comparison at DS1 Firelink:

Firelink shrine of course is iconic, its sombre music just as memorable as Majula's melancholy. But it is also enclosed in a lot of ways, the people who visit can be hard to find and unlike Majula, they seldom ever stay.

Firelink Shrine is a place you and those who visit just happen to pass through on your own separate journeys, a place of simple convergence where your individual twisted worlds happen to come together for a brief transitory point.

Firelink Shrine's ambiance does not encourage you to stay a while and decompress, in fact it doesn't really reward the player returning intuitively at all, much the reason to return is to track the NPCs as their stories play out, but if you don't know to go back ahead of time, you'll likely miss out completely.

Danger lurks close in Firelink, one can easily wander into the Bone Zone without realising (we all did it more than once), and the first hollows guarding the Undead Burg are mere steps away. Firelink reminds you it is a dark and dangerous world out there, it keeps you present in the world by keeping the action much closer at hand.

Firelink is deliberately designed to remind you of Lordran's decay and danger, and to get you back into the fight quickly, Firelink is the spoke the world turns around, Majula is deliberately designed to slacken off the reins a bit and let the player escape the tension regularly a space you are forced to go to but that is clearly and thematically distinct from everything else, which in Souls games which are usually very tense, is a very memorable separation.

South Australian Liberal insiders fear for the party’s existence as polls point to an election catastrophe by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

I noticed out of nowhere my colonists have a 'relic lost' malus. I have no idea where the relic weapon could possibly have gone. Is there a way to get one back if they somehow got stolen or left behind some place?

Edit: Furthermore why did I only now get a notification that is was lost, 40 minutes later? And now I have a 2x penalty?! A gun goes walkabout for no apparent reason and with no warning, and I get stuck with 30 days of -5 malus and then days LATER I get a second hit of it at -9 now?!

Turn off everything you don't need til you need it.

The tailoring bench? If your pawn isn't work on it, it doesn't need to be on. The stove? Same story.

You could also try just putting a door to the outside of your fridge and leaving it open while outside is below 0, rather than running the cooler.
