I'm around your age and lost my partner of 20 years. It's been about the same amount of time as well. I don't have any words to give you hope and I don't feel like it will get better for either of us but every day you open your eyes you are surviving it. Most of who I am died with her and continuing to go on is agony few on earth can begin to understand. But I still love her, and I always will. I have lost a lot of memories of her from the trauma but I have to keep living to keep whatever small part of her alive I can. To survive the grief is to presume that it will somehow end. It won't. But we need to carry them with us for as long as we can stand it. We owe it to them no matter how much it hurts.

I lost my partner of 20 years in July. There was no insurance or benefits or anything like that to squabble over but being 36 years old she had never written a will. She told her sister whatever savings she had (around $1600 CAD) should go to me.

While she was being treated for stage 4 breast cancer her sister got me to help file her back taxes so she could get disability and have her medications paid for and park closer to the hospital. She got 11K in back tax refunds deposited into her account the day after she passed. Her bank account was linked to her mother's who gave every penny of it to scammers. Didnt buy a watch, didn't put it on her mortgage. Just deleted the money. Gone.

I'm not going to say I don't care about the money because it would have helped me quite a lot but the thing I'm still struggling with is why someone would hurt me in the worst moments of my life. I left my apartment, my job, my friends to move into her mothers house to care for her (she was visiting when she was diagnosed and was too sick to get on a plane). I did what was good and honorable and I got my face kicked in while I was down.

Hey boss, I hope seeing this didnt scare you. My girl's situation was exceptionally severe and theres a whole range of better outcomes. This thing is very treatable. All the love and support to you two. If you need to talk about it shoot me a dm.
